Don't be scurred.
I, a crappy-to-middling bassist, hadn't played an upright bass before, and I thought "How hard can it be?" Spoiler: It's pretty hard. Better spoiler: this is a really fun way to learn to play it. The WAV5 is a gorgeous piece of hardware that will become a conversation piece in your home if you're brave enough to set it out where folks can see it. It's got that sweet acousticky… read more upright tone, but also you can flip some switches and twist some knobs and hang it on a harness and turn it into an eleven-foot-long* bass guitar. Also, this is 27% better than your average double bass, because it has five (COUNT 'EM! FIVE!) strings. If you added just any old string to a double bass, it'd only be 20% better, but here you're adding a low B, which, by its nature, is 35% better than any other string you could add to the bass. You do the math. It'll check out. The long and the short here: This is a fantastic instrument. Get you some. * Not actually eleven feet, but you will feel like a bass god with eleven-foot arms when you play it regardless.
A wonderfully crafted joy to play.
My transition to upright has been a pleasure. The warm rich tunes are amazing.
NS Wave 5 upright
New to the upright bass.Completely different from electric bass. Beautiful, quality instrument. Dots on the fret board are the actual notes, not where the frets would be. No dots on the side of fret board, so learning the note scale distance is a must. 5 string is great, but harder to bow. The stand is strong, but extends a little wide. Nice gig bag.The closest strings I could find… read more that match the ones shipped with bass are D'Addario ECB81-5SL. Sweetwater carries these.
