Moving from fretless
This bass is beautiful and sounds even better. I've played fretless for years, so the transition to upright wasn't as bad as it clearly could've been. I'm not sure if I'd recommend a fretted player to move directly to this, but to each their own. Taylor assisted me with the order and kept updating and in touch the entire time. Definitely 5 stars on his service. Playing this… read more thing with a bow is challenging at first. Making it NOT sound like mating cats is tough, but once you "get" it, this thing sings so beautifully. If you're looking to get your feet wet in the upright world, this thing is the ticket. High value and sound for very reasonable price.
Love this Bass
First off thank you sweet-water. This is my first time ever buying a bass unseen and unplayed. To say I was nervous about that is an understatement. The bass was packed supper tight into 2 boxes for extra protection. No issues there! Once I got the bass out I was in love. I did by a demo model and saved a couple of 100 dollars. Well worth It! You can not even see the small blemishes… read more unless you are looking for them. The bass and Stand were in there bag and they where easy to remove from the bag. The bag is nicely built and fits the stand and bass perfectly. There are 2 pockets. 1 for a bow and a smaller pocket for stuff. The bag has a nice shoulder strap. My only wish is that is had a backpack style straps. When carrying through a door I had to be extra careful not to bang into to the door as it hangs out a little bit when you carry it on one shoulder. The Stand is simple to setup and has lots of adjustments to get the right height and angle of the bass. I was a little worried about how sturdy the attachment to the bass would be. I will say it seems to be good. Once I had the bass attached it was nice and tight and did not feel like to was going to come loose. Once I had the bass adjusted I plugged it into my amp. I use a tech 21 bass fly rig to a Power Engine Deuce Deluxe. I was supper surprised at how much sound this thing puts out. It was very loud from the get go. The bass has a volume and tone knob and switch for Arco and pizzicato. At home by myself I really did not have a preferred sound between the 2 and I could get a lot of cool sounds even a really good acoustic sound out of both. I did practice with my Seventies light-rock band and found that being on pizzicato and adjusting the tone knob depending on the the song gave me some great options!. I am interested to try with my Soul/Pop band as I think I will be able to do some fun things there as well. Playing the bass is smooth and easy. I have have played upright for many years and I will say it has 3/4 size feel to it. It has position dots for each fret witch is nice but took me a bit to get used to. As the First dot is for the first fret and not the 3rd fret like most bass guitars. Did not realize how much I use those dots as road makers until I kept trying to play the 3rd fret on the 1st fret. Once I cleared that out of my head I was able to adjust. At first I thought the setup and action was going to be to low for me but after practice last night I realized I like it there. The bass was supper easy to play and move around on. I do a lot of hammer-ons when I play electric that i have never been able to do on an upright bass. I was able to do those last night!. Intonation on the bass was outstanding. I never felt like I was fighting it like i always had to on my acoustic. It stayed in tune the whole night as well. I currently do not have a bow (Sold it with my acoustic) so I have not had a chance to test that yet. Hope to have one in the next few weeks. Overall I love this bass. It is exactly what i needed/wanted and I am looking forward to trying this out in all my other bands.
Great anticipation
this bass will round out my bass collection. each bass I have will do a specific style of playing. the ns wav will serve as my entry in to upright playing. what I like about it is the dot fret measures...should be easy to play. fretless action provides endless slides. portability is a big plus to me. ned steinbergers masterpiece
