Fantastic
These strings are very comparable to the elixir strings, in sound, playability, lifespan and price. It's just a classic phosphor bronze set of strings, so if you've played a lot of phosphor bronze than you know what to expect. They're as good as any other $ set of PB strings; they all usually last about 90 hours of playtime, then they sound dull. They never break (rare exceptions… read more do exist).
All of the benefits, none of the downsides
These strings are pretty remarkable. They don't feel like they're coated when I play them, but offer all the protection and extended life that comes from coated strings. I feel like I'm sacrificing nothing at all by playing these!
I love them!
I really don't understand the negative reviews here, or how they only reach 3 stars. In my opinion these are the best treated strings I've tried! D'addario's website advertises these as warmer than Nickel Bronze, the industry standard EJ16s and the EXP line. Since I've tried all those strings on the same guitar I can testify to the accuracy of that chart. Not only this, They lock… read more into pitch quickly (no stretching) and they don't stray once settled. Best part is that I had them on a guitar for well over 2 months which included a week at sea on a cruise. They held up like a champ. These seem to get a tarnished look after a while but it does not affect the tone at all- keep in mind that these are treated rather than coated. Great for fingerstyle and alternate tunings as well! Excellent product.
Great Strings!
These strings have been great so far. I've been using them for about 3 months now with regular play (currently going through the COVID 19 lock down so I've been playing a lot) and they are just now getting to the point where they need to be changed. I played Elixers for a while but got to the point where I didn't like their coating. It just killed the resonance and feel for me,… read more plus I could practically peel their coating off. The XT's feel great and sound great
Advanced Technology is unclear and underwhelms
These "cores" phosphor bronze strings sounded nice for about four days. During that time they incurred about 12 hours of solid play time. After this, they have they become dull and lifeless. Candidly, D'Addario's uncoated phosphor bronze strings sound better for longer. I think what really bothers me about these strings is that the "coating" is really just some of that annoying… read more black colored residue that used to come on those GHS string saver cloths; which doesn't do anything except leave your fingers coated with black residue which then gets on the back of your neck and, if you have a nitro cellulose finish, gets slow and sticky. Save your bucks and just get two sets of regular strings.
