LOTS of boom for the buck
As with all Yamaha guitars that I've purchased, you get a lot of guitar for a little bit of money. Does everything I need it to and is comfortable to play. It doesn't feel like an inexpensive instrument. It needed a setup when I got it, but I was able to do that myself (thanks, YouTube). Once it was setup, I was very well pleased with it.
BB234
This bass has the best sounding J pickup I've ever owned on a P/J bass. I always buy P/J basses as I prefer the slimmer necks that they usually have with the P pickup and never use the J pickup as they usually leave a lot to be desired for my ear. They usually sound congested with too much emphasis on the mid range. The mid range tones are present but the tone has more of a J neck… read more pickup characteristic as opposed to a bridge J pickup. I was concerned about the fret edges when I bought this one as I saw a video review complain about how sharp they were. Are they as smooth as the higher end models I've played. No, they are not. Is the bass useable right now without a set up. Yes it is! I plan on using it a my next gig.
Great Quality at an Unbeatable Price
I needed a bass in a hurry when my backup bass died during a gig. I usually play my Fender 5 string Mexican Jazz Bass which I love. I needed a 4 string either new or used, and wanted to pay about $300 max. My local store had about 30 basses and 1 of these was a Yamaha BB-234. Wow! The action was pretty good but I lowered it significantly with no trouble. The tone was great.… read more It came with round wound strings which I prefer. The simple controls make it easy to adjust the tone though I really wish all guitars would come with a single master volume control. This bass has a volume control for each of its 2 pickups and then a master tone control. No active electronics means we don't have to worry about a battery failing during a gig. (I've had that happen!) ;-( Nice tone, smaller comfortable neck made for easier playing. I think the bass is attractive too and has a nice balanced feel in my hands. It's hard to believe you can get a bass this nice for so little money. It beats the crap out of a Fender Squire jazz bass that it's replacing. I definitely would recommend this bass to anyone as one of the very best values out there.
Love This Bass!
I just received this bass last week, after doing a lot of research on it before buying. I looked at this same bass on other websites, just to see what services the other dealers offer when you purchase, and no one comes close to Sweetwater. This company is the best. This is my first Yamaha bass and I am very happy with it. It plays fantastic and I love the thin neck and action.… read more My Sales Engineer, Wayne Davis, was a huge help as always, making sure everything I wanted was ready to go and kept me in the loop about delivery. I have a couple of friends who also get their gear from Wayne and Sweetwater and they rave about the company, which was a big part of me initially doing business with them. I'll never buy from anyone else.
Just perfect for me
After much debate I chose the Yamaha. I'm really happy with this instrument. Great low end. Perfect for my needs. A great step up from my beginner bass.
Great sounding value!
It's an attractive instrument that is easy to play and sounds great! As a guitar player acquiring his first bass, I am very pleased.
IncreĆble bass for the money
I own several basses, including a Fender Geddy Lee Jbass. I wantetd a P/J bass for have that classic pbass sound but I wanted something diferent from Fender. I bought this Yamaha without trying, just watching videos on YouTube. Huge risk but I am extremely happy. The bass has a great sound, pickups are great, well balance bass, keep in tune and I can put the action really low without… read more any fret buzz because of the excellent fret job. Awesome bass by Yamaha. Yamaha is very underrated.
