Wow!
For the price you can't go wrong. After about 3 weeks the strings were done stretching, and this guitar holds tune better than my steel string guitars. The tone is amazingly balanced. The volume and projection of this guitar are off the charts: while jamming with a friend playing his steel string Martin, I had to be careful not to play too hard so I wouldn't drown him out, and he's… read more a very heavy handed and loud guitarist. In almost 32 years of playing, this guitar has the best sounding low 'E' I've ever heard. This guitar surpasses my expectations by a long shot. This is not so strange, considering Yamaha makes baby grand pianos that rival/ outperform Steinways. Their acoustic guitar line is so hard to beat for the price. Sweetwater has been more than accommodating, and salesman Ed Nystrom is always patient with me. Thanks Ed!
Great Solid Top Full Size Classical by Yamaha
I've been a non-professional guitarist and guitar hobbyist for 55 years and I just received this Yamaha CG122MSH classical guitar from Sweetwater. I am very impressed with both the service from Sweetwater and this terrific guitar by Yamaha. First the service - I ordered the guitar late on a Wednesday and received it two days earlier than expected via FedEx on Saturday. That's amazing… read more turn around time. As for the guitar - I wanted an inexpensive full size classical guitar for everyday use, one that I wouldn't be afraid to take out in the yard or to the park. However, I've always preferred a solid top to one that is laminated. Enter the Yamaha CG122MSH. I used to own a Cordoba C3M which is their least expensive solid top guitar. While the build quality on that guitar was excellent and the guitar was loud, it would never hold tune so I sold it. The CG122MSH is Yamaha's least expensive full size classical featuring a solid top. It is the only guitar in their CG lineup with a matte finish which I happen to like a lot. The fit and finish on this guitar is outstanding. I features a beautiful solid spruce top, a terrific looking and smooth rosewood fingerboard, a rosewood bridge and tuners that seem do the job quite well. I'm not a big fan of nato as a tone wood for the neck, back and sides but it's okay with me at this price point. The CG122MSH is not as loud as the C3M but I attribute that to the light tension strings used on the Yamaha and the use of the nato wood. However, it still has plenty of volume and projects quite well. The playability and intonation is excellent all the way up on the very comfortable neck. The frets are level and smooth and there is not a buzz to be heard anywhere. It would have been nice if a gig bag was included but that was not a deal breaker for me. To sum up - a very good quality, affordable full size classical guitar made by Yamaha. I highly recommend it.
Stellar guitar
I"ve had this guitar for about 6 years now and it has been played almost daily since. It sounds warm, punchy, and open with Pro-Arte normal nylon strings. I"ve never had any issues with it; the neck is still straight and true like the day I bought it and the action is great. I really like the note separation and focused tone of the solid spruce top, which is getting better and better… read more with time and play. I"ve read a lot of negative comments about the lack of a truss rod in these guitars. My personal thought is that it"s an overrated issue. If the guitar is kept in a normal humidity and temperature environment, and using the proper strings, there shouldn"t be any problems for many years of play. This guitar has been worth every penny of the purchase price and I highly recommend it.
Awesome guitar!
Guitar had a nice full and warm sound. Awesome guitar for the price!
