Finally a comfortable playing classical...and then some!

Bob Perrone

I've been performing for 60 years and a couple of my heroes when I was just starting out learning the guitar were Andre Segovia and Julian Bream. A classical guitar has a unique voice and poses a welcome challenge to young players as well as seasoned veterans. Technique is paramount to learn before you can truly be expressive. My problem was hands that are in the smaller size range. read more A classical neck is quite wide which, for me, always frustrated m from continuing classical studies. Being a steel string acoustic player all these years there was always that nagging little voice telling me to dive back into the classical guitar world. Inevitably I would but would find myself frustrated all over again, selling the instrument but again finding myself investing again in another classical guitar, only to give up yet again. I tried some of the newer "thin body/plays like an electric" models but the tone was always wanting. Just not right. Enter this gem from Yahmaha. Impeccable build quality with an electronics/sound system that is unbelievably good and the ease of being able to travel with it to the office. Then relaxing during lunch without being heard by staff who would come in my office and interrupt to listen are high points. Again, I can't stress how well made this instrument is and way beyond comfy to play. I finally have the ability to explore classical playing after all these years - I'm born again! LOL 4 1/2 stars instead of 5 for only one reason - they could have made the gig bag 1/2 to 1" wider in height. As I said the build quality is exceptional and the design is very well executed. What is the only worry is how "snug" the collapsed instrument is in the the gig bag once the upper bout is removed and stored in the bag with the rest of the guitar. It is very tight and I am afraid of damage to the bridge with the upper bout stored in it's own compartment just above the guitar. As I said - it is a very tight fit. Not a deal breaker by any means, just a small gig bag design flaw in my opinion, so be careful when putting this beauty away in it's bag. I got the red burst and it is stunning. This is also great for playing live for obvious reasons - no chance of feedback and the SRT system is amazing. You can also play standing up! If you aren't into nylon - then grab the steel string model - it is just as good. I couldn't afford both so I grabbed the nylon so I could chase my classical technique. Absolutely a keeper!

Great sound....easy to use!

SLG200N sound greats...really good over ZOOM too...easy to use. Re. straps, enjoying a light strap that I bought at Sweetwater, and attaching it to the pins with laces and a secured slip knot. Working out very nicely.A real eye catcher...audiences love the look and the sound.

This is a fantastic guitar, especially at this price point. The guitar is solid, well built, and you don't need a lower adapter - The 2 AA batteries last a long time. It plays very well, and has room for adjustments to make it play even better. And the sound is amazing. I bought it for use in our Church Band - I've always loved the sound of a Classical in contemporary music read more (Lee Ritenour uses one for rhythm and lead, and it's a nice fit). The problem has been that on stage a Classical just doesn't project. It gets drowned out. This one lets you crank up the sound as loud as you need to. It works. I'm still adjusting the sound, fine tuning my amp settings, but this is doing exactly what I was after. The big surprise? It actually has a very nice punch when used with Overdrive. It is a usable sound. Full. Powerful. I originally thought I'd be switching guitars a lot - And I do some. But this is a LOT more flexible than I'd expected. On top of everything else, it's just a beautiful instrument to look at. I always liked Yamaha's instruments. They did this one right. John Wilson

Strap solutions

Darren O'Neill

For those who have noted that using a strap loosens the screws which attach the top piece to the body, attached are some pictures detailing some solutions. The lower screw needs to pull downward to remain tight. Lacing the strap through the body is necessary because it uses gravity to pull the screw in the right direction. As for the top screw, there is no way to prevent it from read more loosening when a strap is attached. Adding a strap button on the heel is a quick fix.

This guitar is work of art. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable to play, but the combination of pickups makes this instrument's presence immediately known. The electronics produce deep, rich, beautiful tone that is perfect for any venue. I absolutely love this guitar and would recommend it to classical players, singer-songwriters, and those who play small read more gigs.

I have a copy of a Garcia worth roughly 6k. My Yamaha feels better, plays easier and is a pleasure to have for only 600 bucks. Fits perfectly in small airplanes where no overhead cargo typically fits (3 seaters)

Makes Me a Better Player

I've had my SLG200N for awhile now and I feel like this guitar has made me a better player in ways I didn't expect. First off, it feels so natural. But it's the tone, the ability of the system to bring out the little details in each string pluck or strum that lets me hear what I'm doing right and wrong. The clarity and the detail is much deeper than any other guitar I have picked read more up so far. The on board tuners make tuning quick and accurate. The fret board feels great and the on board effects let me tailor the tone. My husband complements me every time I play this guitar. And the guitar makes me creative with tone and genre. I'm using it with Yamaha's THR5 and the two of them work together like they were built for each other. As far as portability, you can't beat a SLG200 and a THR5. These two products make me want to play all day and all night. Love it!

WOW

I really like my new Yamaha SLG200N in the transparent black. It is very light in terms of transporting it with the included case, and as well as as having it in my lap. I had read some reviews that talked about the action being high and having to file down the saddle. I spoke with Chris my Seeetwater engineer, and expressed my concerns about this matter. Chris assured me that read more the 55-Point Evaluation would take care of this problem, and he would let the setup person know I wanted my action to be low. I have only played the guitar while using my headphones, but the sound was great. I wanted to make sure that everything worked properly, including the auxiliary jack, and that I was not disappointed. I I like the fact that I can play while my family and neighbors sleep, because I suffer with a great deal of insomnia, and the walls of my apartment are paper thin. This was a great buy for the money and I am glad that I did not have to go with something of lesser quality. Thanks, Paris

Thank you Josh Kattner for helping me through the whole process and making sure the whole experience was not only pleasant but fun. Thank you for following up to make sure I"m happy and I definitely am. The guitar is wonderful. It sounds great amplified or in headphones and plays like guitars three to four times more expensive. In tune all the way up or down the neck. Great action. read more I can now play sitting right next to my wife while she"s watching tv and not drive her crazy. It also has one side that"s removable to fit very slimly in a nice soft carrying case that comes with it to make it a terrific travel guitar. Sweetwater is first class all the way. They have my business for life. They are the best!

I love my new Yamaha SLN200N Silent Nylon String Guitar. My neighborhood is very quite at night and anyone playing an instrument can be heard a mile away. Now with my headphones plugged in. Only I can hear myself. Now I can practice late into the night.

Very Personal

One of the benefits of the solid body nylon guitars is the lack of reedy muddiness that comes from less than the finest traditional acoustic instruments. Godin and Carvin have been making solid nylons for years, but not like this one.Take your favorite Godin ACS, lighten it up by two thirds, add some shimmer with SLT imaging, allow yourself to aux in your favorite cd or mp3, AND read more have the ability to plug in your favorite headphones for a deeply personal experience in playing, and you have the Yamaha SLG2000N.As another reviewer mentioned, the enclosed earbuds are throwaways; you need a quality pair of headphones to appreciate the sound field. Also mentioned was the fact that your family doesn't have to listen to you work tirelessly over and over on a particular bar or phrase. That being said, the notes are attenuated, decay at a uniform rate (this is nylon, not steel), and have sheer presence in a balanced way that I'm not able to attain with my Godin ACS.You can dial in a couple of reverb settings and a mild chorus effect. You can also dial between the natural guitar sound, which is very good, to a miked image effect which is also very nice or stay in between.Don't let me forget to mention how beautiful and commanding the sound is from an acoustic amp (I plug directly into a Bose L1.) The articulation is superb, thanks to nylon strings, there is very little "squawk"or cross talk between strings. I use the Martin ball end as I find they make a nice uniform tuning experience. The upper bout can be removed at the strap buttons (very clever) to make this a nice traveler with the included gig bag.Due to a progressive disease which is eroding the use of my hands, setup was critical for me.My rep, Mike Godlove, and the final inspection team saw to it that this guitar was as easy for me to play as possible right out of the box. They always do superb work for me with all of my purchases. In summary, a top of the line instrument that begs to be played and held due to the nature of its weight and fit. It is unlike any other instrument out there and well worth the modest price.

Great guitar & very versitile.

This is one nice guitar for practice or plugged in. The built in effects are great & make it much more fun than a straight acoustic. I have it matched up to the Yamaha THR10C for practice when I don't want to use headphones. Speaking of which, get yourself a decent pair of efficient headphones & forget about the supplied earbuds. Mine have an efficiency of 114dB & that works well. read more Anything below 100dB efficiency may be a bit quiet. Note: the SLG200N that I received has a firmware bug that Yamaha has identified. When you play an "A" 4th string 7th fret it sometimes, 70%, glitches. It sounded to me like it echoed the note, but Yamaha cales it a pop in their service bulletin. My serial number is 3200320, but I don't know the re\ange that are effected. It's a minor annoyance, but if you are recording it may be a bigger issue. Don't let this bug stop you from purchasing this guitar if you are looking for a silent guitar or want to gig with an acoustic that is durable & easy to transport.
