Really good

I'm quite pleased with this bass, only problem is that it looks like I'm gonna need to shim the neck, since ot is almost straight and yet the bridge saddles are at their lowest position (first string saddle especially), while the action could be lower...Sound os solid, especially with tone control turned almost all the way down, plenty of choices with the PJ combination. The bass read more is undoubtedly better made than the Squier Affinity PJ which comes at the same price (soundwise - depends, but there's no way the Yamaha sounds worse, tested them both and picked the Yamaha without any hesitation)

Coming to bass for the first time from guitar. This thing is gorgeous. Surprisingly light (in a good weigh), great action and the neck feels great. Finish is wonderful. Unfortunately can't speak much to the sound - a combination of my crappy technique and lack of a decent amp - but from what I've read and heard, it's as fantastic as the rest of the package. Also, great service read more from Sweetwater as always - thanks Israel (sales engineer) and Megan, who packed the order.

Very Pleased

I'm VERY pleased with this bass. Being a guitar player, not a dedicated bass player, I'm not familiar with bass guitars that much. But for the money, this one is great for what I need...recording my songs. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy use, but for studio use, it's seems like an excellent low budget choice. Good tone, no buzz, set up well out of the box.

Great fundamentals..

I had a Fender J-bass stolen from me a while back. My circumstances dictated that I look in the price range of this bass for a replacement, and with many different brands and models to choose from, it came down to an educated guess which one to choose. There are several choices, many of them little more than toys. There seems to be a distinction between "guitar player's basses" read more and "bass player's basses." This isn't just a matter of the scale of the neck, but in the whole construction. In my experience, Yamaha builds musical instruments of good quality, no matter the instrument. They take the time in each case to match the instrument to its requirements. When I received this bass, I was immediately impressed with how well it matched my stolen Fender Jazz bass so far as quality goes. It has a neck more like a P-bass, but I wasn't thrilled with the narrowness of my J-bass neck anyway. This is a comfortable neck to play, period. The shape, the weight, and the electronics on this bass are designed for a bass player. When I play this bass, it's overall quality impresses me. It's definitely a bass player's bass. For a passive pickup bass, I'm convinced it's the best out there for the price, and a decent bass at any price.
