Incredible!
I am a blackface Fender guy… so i wanted something different. I decided on the z wreck jr. Combo. It is now my go to amp. No pedals needed! Just guitar and amp! Amazing tone with tele, les paul. Just blown away!
Simply Amazing Tone
As a matter of background I play mostly post-punk bluesy stuff. I was looking for plug and play amp that has the ability to deliver chimey cleans, crunch, and saturated overdrive and the Dr. Z Z Wreck Jr. does exactly that. The pre-amp is easy to dial in. Set the volume to the maximum overdrive you desire, adjust the tone knobs and you're ready to go. The volume knob and pick-up… read more selector on your guitar combined with your picking dynamics will do all the work in driving the preamp gain. The tone stack will allow you to scoop or boost mids to your liking but sits mostly in a comfortable medium. To my ear the "cut" knob either boosts or cuts high-mid frequencies. No matter how high I set the treble or cut I never get "fizzy" high frequencies (this may be due to the high-freq roll-off of the loudspeaker). It's nearly impossible to dial-in a bad tone on this amp. The rectifier is great for my needs but is a matter of taste. It gets quite "saggy" if you push the master volume. This can create some awesome swells, but if you're looking for something that is sharp in attack when pushed hard this amp is not for you. This amp does not do high-gain sounds well on it's own but can get great high-gain sounds with the use of a boost or overdrive pedal if that is what you need. Added bonuses. It's made in the US by American workers. The construction is rock-solid, all capacitors and resistors are soldered onto a turret board. It comes delivered in a sturdy box that is filled with a rigid expandable foam to protect it while en-route to your home.
Dynamic amp
Very dynamic/touch-sensitive amp! Easy to get a wide variety of tones just using your guitar's volume knob. Great build quality, takes pedals extremely well, very quiet, & easy to dial in. I also find the Master Volume to work well for home use.
Excellent studio amp
What an amp! The tele tones are magical and the master volume increases its versatility. It's built like a tank and will outlast you. I was going to knock off 1 star because I had to swap out a noisy preamp tube but a faulty modern day tube couldn't take away from how amazing this amplifier is. I'm still breaking in the greenback but anticipate even better tone over time. There… read more are a lot of amazing amps in this price range but you should really consider this one if you want a great sounding rock solid amp. I also love that there's no built in reverb or effects loop; simplicity and fewer points of failure are a big plus in my book.
Holy Moly!!!
Incredible amplifier with loads of attitude!!!! My CS 60th anniversary 59, literally is a MINDBLOWING EXPERIENCE!!! Telecasters sound equally incredible. Set full up on both volumes both Les Pauls and Teles clean up nicely with volume knob and pick attack. I'm so blown away with the amp, I haven't even tried effects yet!!! Had her for about two weeks so far. I can't unplug!
