USA amp tones without tubes!

Jeff

Let me begin with I've been playing for about 40 years. I've owned phenomenal tube amps from handwired Vox and Friedman to a 65 Deluxe Reverb reissue and a Tone King Gremlin. Anyone who has owned a "tube" amp can tell you that while they sound great they also require up keep and they are heavy. Still, like most serious guitar players tubes are the only way to go and solid state read more is frowned upon. A week ago, I purchased the R 100 without ever hearing it other than in reviews posted online. Holy cow! This amp is everything I hoped for. It sounds amazing on its own. It takes pedals like it was made for them. The built in reverb sounds really nice. It has an effects loop and it weighsunder 2 pounds. For the gigging player you no longer have to worry about a temperamental tube taking you rig down during a gig. I will be selling off all my tube amps except my Tone King. I no longer gig but I have a home studio and am depending on my TK and my Quilter together with my arsenal of pedals to give me all the tones I need in my studio.

Little bitty beast!

First of all, I'm not in the "honeymoon" phase with this amp. I've had my 101R for a few years now. So I feel like I can give an honest review. I gave it 5 stars because Sweetwater doesn't have the option to give it 6 stars. This amp pretty much replaced my tube amps. I'm still keeping all my tube amps, but I rarely use them. I almost always go fo my Quilter 101R. I've used it read more at home for practice, for recording and for gigging. I play blues, blues-rock, classic rock and some older country. This little amp does it all, and does it all very well. It takes pedals exceptionally well. And it is insane how loud this amp can be. At one jam session with some buddies, I was playing my 101R through a 1x8" cabinet, with a loud drummer and a second guitar player who was using a tube 50 watt half stack. The little 101R with the 1x8" cabinet had volume to spare. I've used it with many different speaker configurations, a 1x8", a 2x8", a couple of different 1x10" cabs, a 2x10", a bunch of different 1x12" cabs, a 2x12" and a 1x15". They all sound great. My favorite combination is the 101R through my 1x15" Eminence and my 1x12" with an Eminence Swamp Thang. That combination is GLORIOUS! If you are even remotely considering the Quilter 101 Reverb, do not hesitate. It is a great amp with seriously impressive tone and so far it has been totally reliable. Quilter has converted me. High quality solid state can definitely sound and feel as good as any tube amp. Plus you get the benefit of better dependability.

It's Not The Size of the Dog in the Fight

It's the size of the fight in the dog. A. As damaged as my ears may be, the vibe from a well lit speaker still turns me on and makes me play better. My Marshall does it for me. But it let me down once. Stranded. I needed something solid state I could just fix that in a few seconds. But.. there's always a but... There are many good ones out there to choose from in 2021. However, read more you'll search a long time before you'll beat this one. It has rental clean warm tone for days on its own, let alone how much it appreciates your pedals. In the size of a pedal board. It's a pretty rockin machine regardless of size.

VERY VERY CLEAN AMP.

Mr. Quilter got it right on. This is probably the cleanest sounding amp head I have ever heard. All controls are great, plus the Gain and Master ie(power) knobs are smooth as glass. I set her up to run clean. You can get some OD break up if you want but chose to run her clean. I have a VT 999 OD pedal set up clean in front of the Quilter 101R. Just get one for your self and see. read more Some serious Kraft-man-ship on the Quilter 101R. Jacob and the team get it here unharmed. Oh Jacob, Here are a couple of pics of my full homemade stack that I made. All maple cabs with older eminense legends 75 watts each. Thanks Guys.

Great little amp head for practice or live performance!

I bought this amp to provide a solid state backup to my tube amp compliment. I found that i love the sound of this amp, especially when i'm looking for glassy cleans, and it has become my go-to amp for that application. Super light, 50 Watts of powerful sound, and lots of tonal capabilities. Also very reliable.
