Direct replacement for Ibanez Mikro bass

Bought an inexpensive Ibanez Mikro bass to try to get back into the fretted world. Bass came with all chrome hardware which I wanted to switch out to black. The stock chrome tuners had a coarse gear ratio which made tuning very quick but you could really feel the gears grinding. I thought the Grovers would be a higher/nicer gear ratio but they pretty much feel the same as the stock… read more tuners. The Grovers were a breeze to install and required no modifications to the bass.

I have an Ibanez SR300 which admittedly is an inexpensive bass. Apparently one of the ways that they kept cost down was in the tuning machines. Gear ratio was high (a little turning on the keys=a big change in pitch) somehow they seemed to slip easily (which is supposed to be hard for a worm-drive to do), plus one of the four developed a "lump" in it's rotation. These Grovers… read more are smooth in operation, lower ratio offering easier fine-tuning, and a direct swap with the originals-no fitting, no cussing, no sweat. They work great!

Bought these Grover minis blacks, through Sweetwater. Needless to say, an awesome deal and product. Put these on my Hofner Bass to replace stock plastic machines. Wow, they dial you right in and hold tune. When you are gigging, you need to get through a set on the gig without re-tuning. These are the ones. Grover means quality. The bit needed to drill holes is 35/64 This is a tough… read more bit to find, NOT standard. I used a smaller bit and a file to get the holes to size. You can order 35/64 bit on line. Reccomend you do. According to Grover tech support, this will bore exact fit. Hardware and screws are heavy duty and made well. Sweetwater had my order here two days ahead of schedule.
