Slinky Round Wound Bass Strings
I am delighted with the new flat wound bass strings I bought from Sweetwater They put a real zest in my enthusiasm for my electric bass. I was using regular round wound bass strings and lost my love of playing! It's like a different guitar. My fingers slide effortlessly up and down the entire range of the fret board, I maybe wrong but I believe it's the cobalt winding inner and… read more outer wraps that give them such a great quality. Thanks Sweetwater, I'm very pleased!
Great Sounding Flats
I was looking for flatwound strings that still had a bright sound. I prefer the feel of flats, but want more high end than traditional flats provide. These fit the bill. Great sound, and great feel. Some people have complained about these strings unwinding, or failing, and that's because you have to bend the string before you cut it, otherwise the windings cans slip loose of the core wire. This is very common with flats, but if you're new to them, you won't know to that, and will think the strings are defective. Ernie Ball should really include those instructions in or on the package.
Great strings
I have these Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats on 2 P-Basses, and they are great. One set has been on for at least 6 months and they have not lost their tone at all. They don't sound exactly like rounds, but they come reasonably close. They are articulate and punchy, and can sound deep and fat when needed to. Smooth as silk, and not too stiff either. If you string them up like the directions… read more say, they should last a long time. I'm quite happy with them.
