From Drop G# to C standard
As the title states, I use these to tune from drop G# (G# D# G# C#) all the way up to C standard (C F A# D#) on a regular old jazz bass, so 34" scale length. They are as loose as I'm comfortable with in drop G#, but with good tuning machines (I use Graph Tech Ratio tuners) it works fine and sounds brutal through my Darkglass rig. C standard is more tension than I like but again,… read more it works. You will probably have to file out your nut slots and you will definitely have to adjust your setup for these strings, they are well beyond what a standard 4 string is designed for. I was never an Ernie Ball kind of guy but I will keep coming back to these strings for my jazz bass.
5-string depth in a 4-string package
Last year I was given a Squire Jazz for my birthday, my first new bass in years. However, I'm a fiend for deep bass, and EADG just doesn't feed my soul. I wanted the fattest strings I could find and Ernie Ball was the only .130 I came across. They strung up without a problem. It's been a while so I can't remember if I had to file the nut. They sound good. The gauge is perfect… read more for BEAD. The only complaint I can voice is that I've become used to coated strings (Elixir), which these most definitely aren't. If you like to down tune, give them a shot!
Great Strings
These strings are super reliable and have great tone! The perfect guage for drop C!
Interesting
Because the 1'st String is the same gauge as the 2'nd String from the Super Slinky set, they're meant for BEAD Tuning.
Great Strings for drop tuning
These are great strings, I've had these on my bass for several months and they are still bright and good as new. If you tune down on a 4 string these allow you to and maintain a normal playability. I will be using these from now on.
