Great Feel and Tone
These are probably my favorite tapes around. They feel great on your fingers and have a full, semi bright tone. Not as bright as rounds, but enough to add that bite when slapping and popping. Silky smooth tone when you want them to be. Excellent for P or J bass. Love 'em.
Sweet, full tone!!!
I friend of mine had these on his Pbass, and his tone was unbelievable!! I bought this set for my Pbass too -I had DR flats on it- and love the tension, tone and feel!! Expensive but they definitively worth the try... Even thinking about install some in my fretless 5st...
On an acoustic bass
I was looking for a string that wouldn't corrode like the bronze strings that came on my acoustic bass, but would keep the zing treble sound. I knew it would make a quieter sound, and sure enough it did. But, from what I can tell, it's common knowledge that an "acoustic" bass almost defeats itself unless it's also an electric. Saying that, these strings sound great with my acoustic… read more over my amp. I'm using a Fender CB-60SCE with a Fender Rumble 100. I still got the zing. The string noise on slides is much less. And, missed frets aren't as bad. With the bronze strings, if you're not dead on, you'll know it and it won't be pretty. While there is still some of that, it's a bit more forgiving. I chose these strings because the reports were that they were much brighter than the other tape wounds. It's odd looking for a bass with more treble, but that's just how an acoustic seems to be. If you get too low, you can't hear it as well without an amp. It doesn't have a jazz bass sound. But, it's a definitive acoustic sound. These strings on this bass seem to play harder things, like metal and rock better than my other bass when I lean into the treble and dig in. But, if I take I take it easy and lean into the bass end, it can still get low and punchy. The tension is super low. so, if you got arthritis or tennis elbow, La Bella tape wounds are wonderful (I've used black nylon in the past on another bass). I found that D'Addario tapes were more stiff on another bass I used. And, with an acoustic neck, any pressure relief is helpful.
La Bella 750G Gold White Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings
I was looking for some strings that were easier for my old arthritic fingers to manage. Cody Kraus steered me toward these strings and they work great. Easy on the fingers and great sound. I'm not a pro, by any means, but I like to play bass...without pain makes it even better.
Deja Vu from 1975
I played in a 3 piece lounge band at the Holiday Inn in 1975. Suits, hair, sparkle. The whole thing. Best time of anyone's life. I played a red, f hole, Baldwin bass with black tape wound strings. Came from the factory with them. Never changed them. They were easy on the fingers. Sound was stand up bass and a whole lot of any other sounds needed. I loved them. God how I miss that… read more bass. Cut to this year .... snap out of it. I put the La Bella golds on my j bass and was transported back in time with my today's knowledge and experience intact. What a joy these strings are. I saw a demo on the Matrix (YouTube) and thought that I had to try them. First, the feel is silky. (Did you know your fingers can feel a 4 micron bump)? I have a light touch and sliding is a joy. Vibrato is strong enough to use noticeably less effort. Tone is detailed and revealing. Be sure to check your setup, I had to make adjustments for best volume and response. Once done the bass was alive again with a new palette for me. Now I don't have to visit the past anymore. Thanks LaBella, my mind is refreshed.
