Simply the BEST!
Blown away by this sound-hole pick-up! I permanently installed it into my Yamaha Red Label FG-180. It keeps the true LOW END tone and beautiful sound quality that this guitar produces. I am SO HAPPY with this pick-up!
Solid Acoustic Pickup
I used to be of the mindset that you couldn't get that true acoustic guitar sound out of a pickup alone but when I saw the Active Mag pop up something about it grabbed me instantly. I have been a Seymour Duncan for for a while now but I never really though of them in the acoustic guitar range. I have been using this pickup in my favorite acoustic guitar and I love it so much I am… read more going to have it permanently installed.I like that it runs off of two 2032 batteries so I didn't have to worry about stashing a 9 volt battery in my guitar. The length of the cable from the pickup is long enough to be able to route the cable on the outside of your guitars body just in case you want to be able take it off easy. The best thing I can say about this pickup is the first time plugging it in and playing with it it just felt right at home in my guitar. My acoustic guitar still sounds like my acoustic guitar through this pickup just at higher volumes. From big strummy chords to delicate finger picking pieces I have quickly learned to trust this pickup for any job I throw at it. If you're looking for a pickup solution for an acoustic guitar honestly give the Active Mag a try, it's simple and sounds amazing.
Faulty design/Nice tone
The cheesy little clip that's supposed to hold the two cr2032 batteries in place allows the batteries to move and create horrible popping and static noises! I remedied it by placing a piece of copper sheet under the clip, bending it around the sides of the pickup, and taping it in place. Now I can jostle it all I want without any noises. I wouldn't purchase one of these unless they… read more fix that horrible flaw. Other than that, the pickup performs very well. Having both volume and tone controls at your fingertips is handy to have more control over your sound. With the volume low and fingerpicking the sound is pretty close to natural and acoustic seeming. At higher volumes and with a pick it can get quite punchy and electric sounding. It's good for bluesy stuff with my 000-15m. The per-string adjustment screws are good to balance the tone between strings -- they make a big difference!
