These are really amazing strings. It's kinda hard to hype up strings - but playing professionally these strings are really the total package. I bought a set on a whim a few years ago because I was curious and they looked cool and I still can't believe how good they are. Coated strings are usually a double edged sword, they stay bright and punchy a little longer but they cost… read more a fortune and feel weird under your fingers. The Black Beauties do cost a bit more than your regular every day nickel strings but not obscenely much and they feel just like regular nickel/stainless steel strings. I'm pretty strict about changing my strings, as soon as I notice a bit of dullness in the sound I swap them out and these strings last me on average 3 months vs standard strings giving me 3-4 weeks. I think the black looks cool and if I have any criticism of them - it's that my fingertips are pitch black at the end of a show if they've been on the bass for a couple months; not when they're new, but when it's getting about time to change them. I definitely recommend giving these strings a go, I know the price is is little bit on the steeper side but they last and sound great!

I purchased these strings for a 5 string Ritter bass because the instrument came with Ritter strings that have a black coating of some kind. I replaced the factory strings with these DR Black Beauties and the tone is incredible. They provide a deep rich bottom end and very crisp, bright tones.....great strings!
