Brilliant amp!
Beautiful british rock sound, a lot of character but sounds good on everything.Orange did a really good job on this amp.
It's OK
I owned an Orange OR 15 and it was kind of the same but this amp had more of a kick to it. I did find this things Gain very good. It was a little more chunky and less hollow as the OR 15's Gain. It was Good though!!
Must Have
Like the classic british rock guitar tones of the 60's, 70's? This is all you need. Plug and play, end of story!
Now This, Is Orange
I own a Custom Shop AD50 and it's the precursor to this amp. Had a chance to play the CS 50 at length through a matching Orange 4x12. Fantastic clean to rock single channel amp. Has a master but only sounds better in a non-master type way as you crank it up. This is not a bedroom amp unless you had a good quality attenuator. Still sounds fine using the Master lower but glorious… read more if you turn it up. Presence knob has a subtle sweep and didn't notice it getting noticeably more aggressive above 8 as Orange says it would. The amp has plenty of top end with humbuckers so it wasn't really an issue. I see a lot of demo's where they crank the gain but don't lower or kill the bass to tighten it up. It can get wooly with the bass up but if you have the Master and gain high, kill the bass and you have a nice, tight and percussive rock tone with plenty of body. I didn't try the boost but imagine it's the same tone stack lift my AD50 has, which sounds OK for higher string leads but gets a little muddy for low string riffing. If I didn't have the AD50 I would be all over this amp and honestly may still get one anyway. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting a dynamic, plug in and go rock machine.
Great classic amp!
This is an excellent amp. Hand wired and you can tell that it's had extra attention and quality parts. This amp has great punch and clarity, it's extremely simple yet surprisingly versatile for a single channel. The class A switch gives the amp a whole new chapter and sound to work with. It's very dynamic and touch sensitive. It's not a lot better than the orange production models… read more but it has that little something special. As always Ben at sweetwater did a fantastic Job!
