Best nickel rounds IMO
I'd been using these for 2 decades, made a switch to Fender for 1 decade, used Mangan as an endorsed artist, and recently returned to D'Addario EXL. They are the most balanced tonally, with a consistent smooth feel for a RW, just tight enough w/o being overly stiff, and respond the best to varying plucking techniques, and can get very close to a flat-wound sound if you use a mute… read more and a more upright like technique. They also last quite a long time if you wipe down your strings after each session. These are pro strings, which is why they are used by so many bassists.
D'Addario EXL165 .045-.105 nickel wound 2 pack
I know strings are a personal preference but you should really give these a try ! High quality and 2 pack is a very reaonable price . Clear crisp tone and and with cleaning a nice longevity .At 70 and 2 heart ops I still play in a bar band and these strings rock ! Thanks to Dave Snow for all his help and advice over the years !
Good quality at fair price
Great as a starter set, back up or for home studio. I have not used them live yet. They sound clear and feel smooth. I would use the next gen coated sets live as the feel is smoother, nevertheless have these on hand.
Best overall
I"m a minor league working bassist since 1977, I started out with nothing and have most of it left. I switched from GHS Boomers in 1982 and never looked back. Tone, feel, reliability and fair price. I can get two weeks out of them if playing six nights a week. Try "em.
