D’Addario EXPPBB190GS GS Mini Bass Strings
These strings have a nice feel to them for a nylon core. They play well and the sound for an acoustic bass is clear and punchy. I did try to drop tune the E string down to D and while it is doable I didn't totally care for the sound when dropped down and the string looses a little more of its tension than I would like it to. Considering the overall compactness of this bass and… read more the sound that these strings produce I am very pleased. I could wish that D'Addario or someone else would come out with another option or two in strings for this bass since Taylor advises against using anything else at this time. I also add my praise to Sweetwater for their good price on these and their fast shipping.
Fine when they work
I think it's remarkable that they've developed these strings for this little bass. In general they are great. But out of the few sets that I've bought, one of them had a dead E string. I don't know how this could happen. I would think it would be an anomaly, but a friend of mine has the same bass and had the same problem with one of the sets she bought. Perhaps their quality control… read more isn't everything it should be. I also note that when the strings age, the outer winding starts to corrode and they leave a brown residue on my fingers after playing them. The mini bass is a great instrument, and I hope other companies will start making strings for them.
