Versatile Stage Guitar! Is it for you???
After over a decade of waiting for a decent hybrid guitar to be built, and almost 3 years of waiting to see where Fender took their Acoustasonic line, I finally bit the bullet and purchased the American Acoustasonic Telecaster in Steel Blue. Is it worth the price? That's relative to each individual. If you want a stage guitar that can produce convincing acoustic guitar tones, usable… read more electric tones and is lightweight and slim, then the Acoustasonic line is at least worth looking into. They are also not the only option. Godin makes the Multiac Steel, which is a similar concept. Anderson Guitarworks have made the Crowdster for a long time now, though it's even more expensive. As primarily an acoustic player with a background in worship leading, I've been wanting a guitar that fits this mold, and could give me usable electric tones if I ever need them. Is it perfect? No. Is it the best live acoustic guitar tone you can have? Again, that's a subjective opinion but for me that's also a no. Will it beat out a regular Tele through an electric amp? Again, probably not. But IMO the acoustic tones sound anywhere from good to fantastic depending on the gear you run it through, and the electric tones are actually usable. And the fact you can actually get a response from it acoustically without plugging in is a bonus, and makes me want to keep it around to pick up and play whenever I feel like it. These combinations, and the fact that the guitar actually plays great, is why I personally decided to finally buy the Acoustasonic Tele. Only time (and many Sundays and other live gigs) will tell how well it holds up. A guitar like this will always come with questions. If you can ask the right questions and be able to give yourself honest answers, then you will be happy with your decision to either purchase one of these or to pass on it. Good luck!
