The Meteora in Bass Form Finally
I was always so jealous when fender first announced the meteora guitar. I love odd ball basses and the meteora shape ticked all the boxes for me, but sadly there wasn't a bass version. Not until now. And it is spectacular. I'm super happy that this bass was offered in Silverburst with a maple board. I don't really care for the Pau ferro option. The only "complaint" I have in the… read more color department is that the bass version didn't get the cosmic jade. That would have been my first choice. The construction of the bass is excellent. The neck feels amazing and you can play on it for hours. The body shape is also very comfortable and allows incredible access to the upper register. It is for sure my favorite bass to play. The main reason I gave this bass four and a half instead of five stars is because of the electronics. The new pickups are fine. In passive mode they almost have a stingray-ish feel to them. Very clanky but in a pleasant way. In active mode, is where the problem lies for me. It is the same preamp as the other basses and that preamp is fine.. in the other basses. These pickups are pretty trebly for humbuckers and it doesn't mix well with the preamp. The treble is way to overwhelming and I always find myself rolling the treble completely off. I honestly just leave the bass in passive mode. I'll probably get another preamp for the bass eventually but the main thing is is that this bass is one of the best feeling and playing basses I've played in a very long time!
