Super beautiful bass!
Got onto the short scale hype after hearing the reviews of this bass. Definitely worth the price given the p-bass and j-bass pickups on this guitar. I definitely recommend getting this PJ mustang as finding strings for this new model bass isn't as hard as the string-through old mustangs that require slightly longer strings because of the string through bridge design. This modern… read more take on a classic bass is great! Only concern is the stock strings that Sweetwater gives you doesn't do the bass justice--I recommend getting La Bella Flats for this bass and putting them on right away! Overall a beautiful bass have had this guy for over a year and still plays beautifully!
Beautiful Instrument and Beautiful Buying Experience
Many thanks to Justin Dunn for recommending the Fender Mustang Bass. Thanks to the pickup configuration, the Mustang produces plenty of low end growl with enough high end presence to stand out and be heard. The neck and body contour are comfortable and accommodating--a highly playable instrument that sounds like a bass costing much more! The buttercream finish and maple fretboard… read more look even better than in the photos. Most of my gear was purchased from Sweetwater; I appreciate the top shelf service and the two year guarantee makes parting with my hard-earned money a bit easier. Thank you, Justin, and I will call you when I am ready to make my next purchase.
Just what I needed! Buy it you won't regret!
As a guitarist I was looking for a short scale Bass for a while. This one has it all for my needs, very good sounds in all 3 positions, comfortable neck, very playable, lightweight. My recommended upgrades are the tuners, Gotoh ones will fit perfectly and make it lighter and precise. A Fender Jazz vintage bridge will also fit perfectly, with better hardware material will bring this… read more bass to the big league. Special thanks to my sales engineer Preston Fulford for taking care of my orders diligently, salut!
Great bass
This bass is just awesome. It's fun to play and sounds great. I love the finish,I went with the sweetwater special buttercream. That along with the mustang body style give it such a beautiful vintage look. It shined right out of the box too. Beautiful gloss and shine. The maple fretboard looks great. It and the frets also have a beautiful shine. From top to bottom this bass is just… read more gorgeous. The sound is nothing short of awesome. The P/J pick up combo is just excellent and probably my favorite bass combo. I personally prefer to have individual volume controls for each pick up but I really don't mind the single at all. It has great low end thump and good punch as well. This is what I want my bass to sound like! It feels good to hold with a strap too. It's not heavy or bulky. The body has great contour and suits me great(I have a small frame). The short scale is easy to move up and down the neck and the frets feel good. Right out the box it felt great. If you are a guitar player you will love the short scale, not just the short scale but in general this would be a great if not the best transition bass for a guitarist. I am and have been mainly a bass player for 20 years or so now and wanted a different short scale in my collection for when my fingers get bad from my Lymes disease sometimes. It's what I was looking for in that regard, something that played like a fender but in a short scale ha. The maple neck can be a bit heavy sometimes and needs a little extra help being held up which is the only thing slightly negative I will say about it. I know some people can tolerate this much more than others and as far as this goes it really is not bad, just worth noting as I'm trying to give a full honest review. Other than that the only thing I personally am not 100 percent a fan of(totally personal opinion) is the strings it came with. Just not my preferred style. It was almost in perfect tune when it arrived though. This is a great addition to any collection and the limited run Sweetwater buttercream color makes it all the better. I love the idea of having a limited edition fender too, even if it's just the finish that makes it limited edition. And the compliments on it are just immediate!
It's all good: Fit and finish excellent, sounds great, superb service from Sweetwater
I couldn't be happier with my new bass, or the service I got from Sweetwater. This is my first Fender bass, and I'm pleased with the sound, appearance, and quality of the workmanship. The neck looks good and is fit perfectly to the body. The bass arrived at my house with no need for any adjustment other than tuning and intonation--neck relief and string height were right on Fender's… read more specs. I was a bit concerned about shipping a fully assembled bass, but no worries: Sweetwater's shipping department did a great job of double-boxing the bass to protect it. I swapped the roundwound strings for a set of flatwounds, as I prefer the feel and mellow sound of flats. The controls work well on this bass, and I'm pleased with the variety of tones I can get with the pickup switch (selecting either of both of the P and J pickups) combined with the tone control to roll off the highs as desired. I would have chosen separate volume controls for each pickup if I had the choice, but the P/J selector switch is going to work for me. Nick Farmer, my Sweetwater sales rep, did a great job at all stages of my order: helping me place the order, keeping me posted on its progress, and following up after I got the bass. Thanks, Nick! Thank you, too, to all the folks at the Fender plant in Ensenada, Mexico: nice job with the build quality of this bass. I'd say more, but I've gotta get back to the new 'Stang....
