Best cleans I have ever heard from a Boogie
Better than my twin. OD channel is great too. Its what I have been looking for for 20 years.
GIVE IT A TRY WITH ANOTHER CAB!
I JUST WANTED TO REPLY TO THE REVIEWER THAT DID NOT RECOMMEND THIS AMP HEAD AND CABINET. I'D STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU TRY A VINTAGE 60 LOADED CAB WITH THIS.I'M PLAYING THROUGH TWO 2X12'S LOADED WITH THE V-30'S AT 8 OHM TOTAL LOAD,AND IT'S HEAVEN TO MY EARS,ESPECIALLY WITH SINGLE COILS. TRUST ME,I'VE BEEN AT THIS FOR 0VER 50 YRS. AND I FINALLY FOUND THE "HOLY GRAIL"!
BAD TONE
I have had many amps in the past and been playing for 10 years plus. I would say this amp falls short in many ways and would not recommend the cab that goes with it. Very hard to say this is worth going with, try another amp.
DEFINITELY A KEEPER!
THIS HEAD HAS FANTASTIC CLEANS,JUST AS GOOD AS MY OLD LONESTAR,BUT I CAN STILL GET SMOOTH,RICH OVERDRIVE,WITH SIMPLE CONTROLS. I ALSO APPRECIATE THE GREAT REVERB,WHICH I THINK,IS MESA'S BEST SO FAR! I HAVEN'T USED THE LOWER WATTAGE SETTINGS,THOUGH,BECAUSE I LOVE THE CLEAR BOTTOM THUMP OF THE 100 WATT SETTING. THIS IS DEFINITELY A KEEPER!
Had the 25. SO glad I have a 100 now!
So, I had the Fillmore 25, which I put through a decent bit of playtime. I liked it a lot, but the one I had developed a rattle, so I sent it back. After that, I had an Allen Chihuahua and jammed through a couple of other amps, but the Fillmore stuck in the back of my head, haunting me. Fast forward to a couple months later, I ordered the Fillmore 100, knowing that, at heart,… read more I like bigger iron in my tube amps - it just feels and sounds better to me. This has been a consistent truth. So, I spent the last couple hours playing at 25 watts on the clean / crunch channel. I really didn't expect this, but I actually like this setting more than I liked the Fillmore 25. It's weird, I feel like the 50 watt setting is a bit of a compromise - some overall loss of dynamics. The 25, though, for whatever reason, is a seriously sweet spot for the cleans. Particularly, one channel set to a more Blackface (12 o'clock or lower on the gain) and the other set to a more Tweedy sound (gain around 3 o'clock to max) with more mids. I particularly enjoy hitting either of those configurations with the Ego compressor with a touch of chorus and delay. It is an absolute wall of sound. The crunch and hi both are quite a bit more modern and aggressive sounding on the 100 to me, compared to the 25. That sound, dial the gain back and they'll easily do dirty blues / classic rock, but I had NO issues hitting Iron Maiden levels of gain without a boost. The 100 watt setting is exactly what you'd expect - loud, punchy - amazing. Truly amazing. Having also played the 50, I can confidently say that I have no clue why anyone would buy it. The 25 has it's own thing going with the 6v6s, so that one I get. All in all, it's just amazing. If you like the 25 but want more balls behind your sound, and an enormous amount of clean headroom, go with the 100. If you want anything from BF to Tweed to hotrodded Marshall, capable of sounding good at low volumes all the way to shattering your windows, go with the 100.
