It is what they say it is.
The price tag on these basses may seem high, but it's not. The workmanship is exceptional. The ergonomics are incredible. I bought a Standard Special 5 with an Ash body, a Redwood Pin Burl top, maple neck, and Ebony fretboard. Stock electronics. It takes no effort to play with authority. Notes jump off this bass. And when you dig in, you can elicit all sorts of growl, grunt and… read more grit. A truly professional instrument. I can dial in a Jazz tone that's amazing, A P Bass tone, A stingray tone, and more importantly, a Fodera Emperor tone. There is no hype around these basses, they are that good. I compare it to other basses I have owned or do own- 1989 Modulus Quantum 4 SPI Custom Swamp Ash, Fender Jaco Fretless, Modulus Quantum 5, Status Graphite 6, Stingray Neck-Through 5H, Wilcox Lightwave 5, etc. A lot of special basses, but none of them play like this bass, or sound half as good. While it's a lot of money, you will never regret the investment. I am now selling basses and saving money for a fretless version..... Amazing instrument.....
