I've been playing for over 40 years and have spent between $100 to $1600 on guitars over that time. I figured it was time to "reward" myself with an axe to be buried with. Hearing that, unlike their "cheaper" models, the quality of the Gibson Custom Shop was still excellent I decided to buy the CS-356. Sigh..... The build quality was equal to my Gretsch Electromatic. The action… read more is too low, the nut has to many burrs (causing the strings to catch and go out of tune after 5 minutes of light jazz fingerstyle), the fret wire slightly bulges through the neck binding, and the stain bleeds onto the binding. Oh, and the case is a base hardshell one; similar to the one that I had for my Epiphone. Yes, these are not major flaws and can be remedied quite easily. For this price though, I feel as though Gibson has suckered the consumer. Save your money and research other brands!
CS 356
An exquisite instrument, the unique construction allows for great sustain and clarity. Carved top and routed Mahogany body, this is NOT like any ES or similar. I have an ES and Vintage LP Custom , this is very much like their offspring . Highly recommended
Gibson 356
First, let me say that Sweetwater service was awesome. Dustin always takes care of me and every transaction is seamless, (and if it isn't they take care of it!). The 356 is beautiful and well built, with a few exceptions. Gibson continues to fall short in the details, the bridge, stop bar, nut, etc always seem to be cheap or have flaws. I feel like whenever I buy a Gibson i… read more have to plan to upgrade these parts.....sad. In the end, the guitar is still very cool and I'll make the necessary changes to bring it up to the level it should have been already. Thanks Dustin and Sweetwater!
Gibson 356 Cherry with Bigsby 2006 model
This guitar plays looks and sounds wonderful. The Bigsby on it adds a little mass and weight and may well contribute to more sustain. The sweet tones emanating from this guitar are historically pleasing. It is a true beauty.
