Hail...Hedra
I'm a long time rhythm guitar , bassist and vocalist not neccesarily in that order, Ive always had bandmates to pull me along. ie since i'm NOT proficient at any of these instruments. But it hasnt stopped me from continuing to practice and get better for the past 40+ years! Now back to the hedra, Its bassically 3 FX units in one. Take some time with it and under stand that it does… read more EXACTLY what you tell it to do. Learn how to use the 2nd layer actions and away you go. Hit a trouble spot no problem ...Restore to factory settings and have at it again. Triple X harmonies follow your playing, if you want or just "Pristine " the tone of your guitar. Its a fabulous unit. Cant wait to try it with vocals and midi. James Materson is my man and continues to go the extra mile.
This thing is crazy cool!
So first things first. If you buy this, READ THE MANUAL. There's a lot going on behind the knobs. This is not simply a knob per function device. Now that's out of the way, this pedal is cool man. First thing I did was run some simple waves through it. It pitches sines, saws, and squares very very well. Dare I say, almost better than abletons warp algorithms. More complex stuff… read more is a little iffy. And by complex, I don't mean a clean guitar signal or a vocal signal. I mean heavy harmonics, noisy and busy signals. I tried pitching a drum bus for the hell of it. It's not terrible at -2 or -1 oct. Totally useable if you're looking for a weird kinda lofi thing, but beyond that, not too functional. Still have more to put through this pedal, but so far I'm happy I bought. Definitely one of the better pitch shifters out there!
Amazing for bowed strings like violin!
Originally I purchased this for guitar and thought it was cool, but then I tried it on electric violin and thought this is one of the best things I've tried for violin ever. As a music theory buff and having the ability to harmonize different intervals in different keys, you can even harmonize in modes if you know what you are doing theory wise! I didn't get this for the wacky out… read more there sound, but for the double and triple note harmonizations! It tracks very well and 'if" you play in tune, which I am hoping you do, this thing will sound glorious. The only downside to this unit is in a live situation it is hard to lock in the specific key with the knob, so I am going to have to get a midi switcher and set it up for the different keys and harmonies. I would learn midi just for this pedal, it's that good, and I don't like complicated set ups. But having a midi switcher set up and say ok, I want to harmonize in E minor in 6th's plus an octave would be amazing. Don't buy this for the glitchy weird sound, if you don't like that, just don't go there, there is plenty of cool, very natural, and very well tracked sounds you can get out of this unit.
Key word: Rhythmic
As another reviewer mentioned, I really wanted to love this pedal. I will say as far as acting as a pitched shifted multi tap delay, this is very good and sounds quite spectacular in that regard. However, using this as a polyphonic pitch-shifter left a lot to be desired. The tone was completely sucked out of the pitch shifted voices and they sound brittle and metallic (this is… read more less of an issue when using the voices with a delay time). Obviously all digital pitch-shifting will do that to some degree but for this pedal the pitch shifted voices seemed particularity anemic. I will also say the tracking while playing chords was a bit spotty/glitchy. If your main goal is a pitched shifted delay, this is actually a great pedal. It also seems to work decently well for harmonizing monophonic licks. But, if you are intending to use this as a straight up polyphonic pitch shifting pedal, avoid this product.
I can't describe how awesome this thing is
Get the foot switch too because you're gonna want to make a lot of presets.
