Yes, it's a One Trick Pony, but what a great trick!

I wanted an octave style pedal for my board. I have a Nano POG that I love, but I was looking for simplicity throughout the board - real set and forget stuff - this board was for more playing and less tweaking. You can't get simpler than a no-knob pedal. Works great with fuzz/treble-boost/OD in front of it. EQD doesn't disappoint.

Great on bass!

I love this as a stand-alone effect for bass guitar, especially between the 1st and 5th fret! It retains low-end and brings some mystically perfect compression along with it so I am very thankful there are no dials or controls. Very fun 'Stranglehold' lead guitar sounds past the 12th fret on the higher tuned strings

When I turn this thing on I tend to play differently in my note selection and in my chord choices. I've been playing for 30yrs and I'm kinda stuck in my ways, but when I hit the button I tend to go into totally different territory. That is a massive compliment to this pedal, and it sounds excellent!!! Glad I bought it, great job Earthquaker Devices!!!!

While i love fuzz, for the band i'm in and and equipment i own (rock band using plexi style amps) i don't have the opportunity to use fuzz as much as i'd like. But I love fuzz sounds. So when i saw this pedal, I got excited. I was hoping it would give me that cool octaver sound but through my cranked JCM 800. It was a bit of a gamble as i couldn't find anybody using it in this way. read more But i'm happy to say that it sounds awesome. I get the cranked marshall sound i mainly use, but with that cool, glitchy octaver effect. I'm going to try my best to explain the sound if anyone is interested in using the pedal as i am. My main set up at the moment is a cranked JCM 800 into a cab loaded with V30's and playing with either a Les paul Jr or a les paul with super hot ceramic pick ups. The tentacle actually has a tiny bit of drive to it, and will brighten up the sound (i assume its because of the octave effect). This pedal gives the tone a crunchier and brighter characteristic, giving it an almost digital feel (but in a really cool way). The octave sound is more prominent past the 12th fret, but if you roll the tone knob off completely the effect can be heard everywhere on the fretboard. When you roll off the tone, the pedal adds just enough brightness keeping it form sounding too dark or muddy, and when you add a drive pedal this effect sounds even gnarlier. And finally, this pedal does not like chords. Power chords sound fine, but nothing else really. If you try to play an arpeggio on a clean amp with this effect on, it will sound like you blew the tubes in your amp. So this pedal is really meant to play loud, basic chords, or for playing guitar lines and licks. All in all, i love this thing and i use it alot, but it is a bit of a niche thing. Then finally, this thing makes all Fuzz pedal sound dope, even a fuzz pedal that i didn't care for, suddenly sounded amazing with this pedal before it. So if this is your kind of thing, this pedal is definitely worth it.
