Overall a good guitar, good pickups. Handles low tunings well, mine is in 1/2 step down, and still no buzz.

A friend/bandmate purchased an Ibanez GRG7221QA and brought it around to my place for, as SamuraiGuitarist would call it, my HUFO (honest, unfiltered opinion). In a nutshell, the GRG7221QA is almost everything I've ever liked about Ibanez: fast-playing, comfortable, plenty of low end, and controls that at the same time are plenty simple and give more tonal options than one would… read more typically get from a pair of humbuckers, on top of which it comes with an extra-punchy, super-responsive, fantastically flat, and utterly gorgeous purpleheart fretboard in a price range in which one could normally expect Indian laurel or, at best, maple. The only areas where this beast loses points for me are purely aesthetic. Namely, the quilted maple veneer in person looks more like it was bubblejet-printed onto a piece of vinyl and glued on, and the choice of putting a transparent finish on back the over multi-piece poplar makes it look like a middle school wood shop project from the back...like, one that got a C+ at best. It would be a simple matter to strip, sand, and refinish it, but this review is based on it as it comes. For what you'll spend on this thing, though, there's nothing better that I've run across in a musical instrument.
