Review Based On Previous Expectations

Let me say that this is not a terrible bass and is very functional. I would still recommend it. My review is based on my previous Ibanez purchase. I own the SRF705BBF 5-String Fretless bass and am VERY, VERY, VERY happy with it. This was my reference for this purchase. When I purchased the Ibanez SR505E, I was expecting and hoping that it would play and sound similar to the -705-, read more minus the piezo bridge. In this configuration, it did not sound as good, or close enough to satisfy my needs. I was actually hoping for the SRF705BB platform, but with frets. Not even close. Ibanez was never smart enough to offer a fretted version. Positives: - Bridge appears to have a decent feature set that allows for full adjustability. - It can funk out with some similarities to a Jazz bass. - Fretwork was decent. No fret sprout. Differences: - Has a slim Jazz-style neck with 5-strings. - Body is not finished like the -705-. Kind of a Paint-stain. May be prone to chipping, exposing the plain wood underneath. - Tuners are not in-line, but could be. - Tone and feel are not terrible, but different. Over-all, I'd still recommend it for a sub-$1K bass. It just didn't meet my particular needs... Even though I'll keep it and still use it. "Your Results May Vary"

One of the best 5 strings for the price

For 699 this bass blew me away. Although the Bartolinis aren't actual Bartolinis the tone is amazing. I have modified mine with the Darkglass Tone Capsule pre amp and with Aguilar pickups and it has destroyed all my previous basses.

I have a Fender Mexican Jazz bass, I've also played a 6-string ESP bass and a Yamaha TRBX304, and so far, this is the bess bass guitar out of them all.
