Ibanez SRSC805 Cerro Single Cut Review

Versatile And Gorgeous

I've had this bass for about two months and it's great. The range of sounds you can coax out of this is really impressive, and the gorgeous looks are the cherry on top. It played great out of the box but even better after some quick adjustments. I haven't taken it to my luthier yet but am stoked to see how it feels after a proper pro setup. I play at a church as well as a cover… read more band that does country and alt rock. For fun at home I play everything from metal to Motown. The church runs a Sansamp DI, and in my band and at home practice I'm running a Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra. The SRSC805 performs great in both settings. Last week I listened back to the church's livestream and this really punched through the mix nicely. I don't really get why some people are down on the Bartolini MK1s, I'm very happy with the range they can cover. I suppose the preamp might not be the best, but my preference is dialing in a good base tone on the Sansamp/X Ultra and then using the eq on the bass to make very minor adjustments as needed from song to song so it's really not a negative for me. Overall an amazing value for the price!

Ibanez SRSC 5 String Bass

What a fantastic piece of art..! It was worth the wait to get it. It's a little different incorporating the fifth string into the chord tones with my small hand but it is working. The active/passive choice with the three band equalizer gives you the options of changing the phrase feel and groove. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Awesome bass, awesome service

I have been playing bass for over 20 years, mainly in weekly church services and special events. I require instruments that have a versatile tonal range, are light weight, and can handle regular use. I have been looking for a unique, five string bass that fits all these parameters for a while and boy does this bass deliver. I actually purchased a limited run musicman stingray 5… read more string from another music store but wound up returning it after less than a month because it just didn"t play well, even after a full set up. Plus the thing was a boat anchor and hurt my back even with a special strap system. Fortunately I was able to actually come out to Sweetwater on a recent business trip. I called my sales engineer Ty Heimann ahead of time because I had a small window of time and I wanted to try out about six basses to really make sure I got the right one. Ty hooked me up and had all the basses I wanted to try ready to go for me. I played basses that were quite a bit more expensive, but this one was hands down the best. I had a buddy who plays with me and he agreed. Not only does the bass sound awesome, the tone is very clear with solid lows, defined minds, and bell like highs, but it gets a wide range of sounds between the two pickups. The bass is very light weight, and the neck is super easy to play, and it sustains like crazy. I barely notice the switch from playing 4 string for 20 years to now playing a five. I can easily slap on this thing, something I struggled with on the MusicMan. This bass shoul easily be at least $500 more than it is. Get yourself one!

Outstanding Bass

The Cerro 5 is a great bass, in fact I own two of them. They are lightweight, balanced, and very comfortable to play. I find the Cerro to be very responsive and totally free of dead spots on the neck. The hardware, construction, fit and finish are top notch and the neck feels superb. While I am not a fan of the MK1 pickups, this model has been a good candidate for my pickup upgrades.… read more The stock Ibanez preamp / EQ is quiet, well voiced and very musical while the bypass switch is a nice option. I went the extra mile and had my basses Plek'd by Glaser Instruments in Nashville. Now, they are on par and play as well as any 5K+ boutique bass that I have ever touched. In all my years, as a professional, I've never been as happy or content, with a bass, as I am with the Cerro. It is a versitile instrument and works in any musical setting. Ibanez is making innovative, boutique quality instruments at affordable prices.

Great Versatile Instrument

I play in two different wedding/cover bands with a pretty diverse selection of tunes and this bass is versatile enough to handle everything. Right from the start I've been impressed with how even the tone is across all parts of the fretboard and the active pre-amp let's you dial in just about any sound you need. As a lot of other reviewers have said, this bass leans towards being… read more treble-heavy when the EQ is flat, but rolling off the high end and adding some compression evened everything out. The neck-through construction lends great sustain and the Bartolini pickups everyone loves to hate sound pretty darn rich on this bass. Definitely a great instrument for the money.
