Beauty and a Beast

Wonderful workhorse of a bass. I have been playing every week for the past year or so at church, almost always on the BTB to support our lower keys. Running through a SansAmp, you have great responsive tone control right on the bass. Super fast neck, not too heavy but it feels solid. I picked one that has a very straight wood grain, it looks great and gets many compliments.

I've been playing bass and many different basses for over 30 years and this is my first Ibanez. WOW! What took me so long? The neck is thin and straight with excellent string action. So easy to play. The active electronics are also excellent. Gives me a wide variety of tones. The bass sits nicely and well balanced when standing. Love having the longer scale, 35 inch, neck. read more Overall the BTB745 Ibanez is a great looking, playing and sounding bass. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Compared it to $$$ Modulus bass

I was looking for a reasonable neck through 5 string for live gigs and the Ibanez Standard BTB745 specs and reviews looked pretty good. I called my trusted sales engineer at Sweetwater, Ikes Taylor, that always has excellent advice and tech tips, and he said this was a good buy so I went for it. Right away I did a side by side comparison of this bass with my Modulus 5 string and read more it's my go to bass now. Feels good and plays really fast. The pickups are sweet. I love the fact that Sweetwater does a 55 point inspection on the guitars before they ship.

Sound: 35"Scale brings the beef, MK-1s are crystal clear, Monorail bridges reduce string crosstalk, tonewood resonates well. No matter what you chain behind this thing live or on D/I recording, it'll sound like a log-monster. Playability: I've played exclusively 35" scales, so if you're used to 34", it may take some adjusting... otherwise, the neck feels great, the fretboard glides, read more string spacing feels like that of a 4-string so its familiar if you aren't used to 5 strings, comfortable to play no matter how high or low you strap it, Sweetwater set it up perfectly too! Reliability: I play in a mathy/funk/metal band so my bass gets a good thumping every practice/show/studio session, but the hardware is magnificent it stays perfectly in tune whenever I check. Neck-through construction makes it feel super sturdy. Electronics are well done, no issues there so far. The locking jack is a HUGE plus. Versatility: Depending on your Pickup EQ / Blend and the chain behind the 745, you can cover all styles of music 100% effectively (except those that require upright bass or fretless) Ease of Use: The monorails might seem weird to restring your first time, but after that its fine. Unplugging your cable from the locking jack may take some getting used to as it requires an extra step but it becomes second nature. 9V cavity is simple, no screwdrivers or tangled wiring! Everything else is standard for all guitars Looks: I actually prefer this finish over the burl options and even the Premium BTB finishes! When I'm not playing my BTB745, it is my favorite piece of home decor. Bottom Line: This is a perfect bass, for a perfect price. I am beyond satisfied with this purchase.
