The Sweetwater team is awesome! My Sales Engineer (Louis Sawyer), is amazing, his professionalism is second to none! I placed an order for the Lakland 55-02 bass guitar and was done in less than 6 minutes. I will continue to do business with Sweetwater.

AMAZING VALUE

I purchased one of these last week. I originally purchased one of these in Honey burst In August of 2018. I loved it so much that I just purchased another one in this pure white. You will not find a better bass in this price range. Between buying these, I purchased a MM Stingray 5 and I preferred the Lakland. Nothing wrong with the MM, this just fit me better. I took the MM back read more and got a refund and got another 55-02. There is nothing in this price range that has the full sounding B string like the 55-02. last week $5-when I purchased this bass in store, I tried a bass that USA made and in the $5k-$6k range. The Lakeland held its own in the tone department and the B string WAS BETTER. Sweetwater is the best customer service in the business. You wont be disappointed.

I Love my Lakland

I don't have a massive collection of basses, but rather wanted a single instrument that could give me everything.I knew I wanted a 55-02 at some point and the day I saw them advertise the white-on-white on their website I anxiously searched anywhere and everywhere to find a spot to order it. Thank the almighty Sweetwater. So the cool looks are the only thing distinguishing this read more from the other 55-02s but the meat of the instrument is amazing. I am very happy to have an active/passive switch so if the battery dies I can still have bass. The pickup switching and customization of the tone is very user friendly and extremely variable. I can get that nice slappy Fender tone, and a dry boomy tone and everything in between. I personally like a growl-ey tone I get out of it for a Joe Dart/Jaco tone (tone, not skill). If my music career progresses me into a professional level bass, I will look to Lakland again for the next step up from this. I'm a customer for life.

I bought this bass for two reasons; pickup configuration and looks. It is a beautiful look with the pearl white and inlays. The pro's: -pickups and preamp are extremely versatile and useful. You can go from Stingrayish to 60's Jazz to 70's Jazz with just the switch. I have found the 60's Jazz and the S/H balance to sit the best in my gigs. -preamp is versatile and the bass read more range and mid range settings are well voiced. It is a low end heavy tone. -neck is a good D shape and has the almost "oil finish" type of feel. It is a phenomenal neck shape for my hand The cons: -uneven PLEK job from the factory. When I first got it the neck was far too straight (almost back bowed) so I had to put in a bit of relief. No matter what I've done with the relief or action, there remains fret buzz from fret 13 to 16. I've been able to play softer and get around it but it is definitely a fret issue. Not bad enough for the hassle of sending it back but a "PLEK'ed" bass should not do this. -fret glue on G string on about 4 frets was excessive and made its way onto the fretboard and is now visibly flaking off. Minor issue and it will go away with play but sloppy attention to detail. - Bright when going direct. I know I'm going to be that guy griping about an ash/maple bass being too bright. When going into my amp it is not bad at all but when I play through a DI I find myself dialing back the treble most of the way. I am mostly a P bass type of guy if that helps. I do however like the aggressive nature of the tone even if it is a little bright for my liking. I really do like this bass and I've used it on 5 gigs so far. It records well and gets lots of comments on looks. My biggest gripe is fretwork but for an import it is still above par and enough to pique my interest on a US model down the road. Extremely versatile bass and I could easily see why so many bassists buy 55-02's and make then their main players. I've owned just about all of the high end company basses and typically play Spector, Sadowsky, or Modulus and can see this bass staying around.
