Pros and cons
I have changed my opinion of these strings over the past few years. The first colored dr strings I played were Black Beauties and they were dull, lifeless and one string actually broke. HOWEVER,those strings had been sitting in the back of a music shop for who knows how long. I decided to give them another try, this time blue, and I have never been disappointed with that purchase.… read more If you play every single day, a little bit of the color will wear off and honestly, that's a good indication you need to change your strings and not use the same pair for a year or two like some people do. Dont be an animal, Wipe down your strings after you play! ^_^ I have these strings on my P Bass and my Schecter and I'm about to buy another black pair for my Ibanez. They really are black light reflective , bright, punchy and full of life. Give them a try!
Pretty? Good?
A set of these came on my used Oscar Schmidt OB-50 when I bought it. Straight out of the package, they had the same dull, lifeless sound, and within a month, the coating was chipping off at the frets like on the first set. Beautiful though they are, my experience is that they're not good for much outside of promo pictures or making music videos. I'll eventually buy some more, but strictly for aesthetic purposes when I retire my bass as a display piece.
