Warmer than Roto 77's, but...

I own a G&L L2000 that I play in a cover rock band (60'to present day classic rock and dance tunes). I use the guitar's active pickups option exclusively. Because we cover a wide range of rock music styles I bought this bass for its versatility. But it packs a wallop of tone and I sometimes feel like I am riding a rodeo stallion! So my search for tone and control of same led me read more to try different strings. I found the 66 stainless brights (45-105's, I think), which aren't as harsh as other round wound stainless string brands, but their high frequency responses were still a bit too difficult for me to control well on this bass. I came across these nickle-stainless 77's which are noticeably warmer. They seemed to be a bit rougher on the fingers than the 66's (not a big deal), but this was especially noticeable on the E string. While I think this selection of string in the pursuit of better tone control and warmth is a good step in the right direction, I noticed that the E string only lasted about 2 or 3 gigs. The rest of the set is still good, so I wouldn't want to change them. Perhaps my expectation for E string life is too much...after all, I play with a heavy pick on a few songs and this string takes the brunt of it. I actually had a set of 77's on the bass a couple of string experiments ago so I think I will try those again. The Quest for Tone ain't over!

Excellent Tone

These nickel roundwounds from Rotosound have really impressed me. I currently have them on a Jazz bass and a EBMM Stingray and they sound and feel great. They are bright for nickel but not as harsh as stainless steel. As a bonus, the light blue silk wrap also looks great at the headstock. I would absolutely recommend these strings.
