Exactly What I Wanted!
I am a multi-instrumentalist / one man recording band so I was in the market for a solid 5 string bass that wouldn't break the bank, and let me just say.. I've only had this for a few days now, but WOW this thing is sick! I play a baritone guitar tuned to B standard (sometimes drop A) so I wanted a 5 string for the low B so I didn't need to modify the nut of a 4 string for heavier… read more strings, and all that fun stuff. I have always loved J-Basses, and this one really delivers! It's got that growl you'd expect from a Jazz Bass, every note is very clear, and it plays like a dream! I'm not a huge fan of gloss necks (more of a satin guy) but this one is really smooth to play and it doesn't sound like I'm rubbing my hand on a basketball court when I play. Like I said it's only been a few days, but I'm super stoked to start recording my album in a few months with it, and all of the music to come after that! Just want to throw out there that Sweetwater is the absolute best, and my dude Garrett is the man and made sure I preordered it so I didn't miss out on the new shipment! It got here quick, and it was packaged so well that I think it'd be easier to break into Fort Knox than to damage the bass during transit! All in all, I'm a happy customer!
Solid choice
I chose this because I needed a 5 string on a budget. The reviews were good so I went with Sweetwater due to their customer service.About sweetwater, they had the bass to me on time and its setup was good. The neck felt great, reminiscent of an old 62 Pbass I used to play back in the late 70's before it was stolen. Im a retired pro and I am in love with the depth of tone this gives… read more me.Im playing through a fender amp and this gives me all the tonality & responsiveness that I could ask for. Mine is Black and I would use this for any musical situation. Its a beast without any mods necissary.
Best bang for your buck for a 5 string bass, period.
I'm a gigging musician and I bought this bass to have another 5 string to replace an older Ibanez and I couldn't be more pleased. I have been playing Fender basses for three decades and I am honestly shocked at the quality and the tone of this bass. It was delivered with perfect intonation and the setup was spot on. I would be skeptical about ordering a guitar online from anywhere… read more but Sweetwater as this is the third bass I have ordered from them and they have all been perfect right out of the box. Do yourself a favor and don't overlook the Squire because you won't be disappointed!
8 months later, and loving it even more.
I've been playing this bass at rehearsals and at home ( I get lazy to get my Kiesel out of the gig bag at home, partly because this Jazz is such a good axe). Besides all the compliments I gave this bass last May, I forgot to mention these Pups rule, loud and clear. Great for playing live, or rehearsing at home for ht e next service
Excellent 5 String
This baby is absolutely amazing. Slap fender in place of Squier on the headstock and this would cost you $1379. The neck is lacquered up, but feels great. I'm a sandpaper guy. But not on this one. No need. Pickups are solid. Sure, there are better pickups, and the pots are cheap. One day when one fails, I'll upgrade, til then this Squier sounds like a jazz bass should.
