So Cool
This is such an welcomed part of my pedalboard. I don't use the Talkbox part very much, but the pitch correction is so nice and really cleans up the vocals. I wish every band used something like this in their performance. So the robot voice FX, but a simple correction just in case you are tired. It works so well that you can't tell it's on until you turn it off.
Epic Talk Box Sounds Without Drooling All Over A Tube!
I love this little metal box! This pedal, the TC-Helicon Talkbox Synth, is straightforeward and easy to use. Takes either 4 AA batteries, or a 9V power supply input. Instead of the usual tube straight to mouth setup for an analog talk box, the microphone will run straight into the mic input at the side of the pedal that faces away from you, and a second microphone cable will be… read more run from the mic output of the pedal into a powered speaker, or in my case, one of the inputs of my Fender 40 Watt acoustasonic amp. The guitar input will run as usual from right side to left side. This pedal also has a direct output option with ground lift to remove noise if your preference is mixing board instead of speaker. To use the pedal's talkbox sound, you have to make noise with your mouth. This was a little silly at first, but it didn't take me long to figure out how to get the sounds that I wanted from it. You don't even need to match the pitch with your vocals, The pedal does the work for you! There are two options that allow both outputs to pass through, getting a cool dual sound with your rig on the guitar output and your new either classic or modern talkbox sounds on the other. The other settings on the pedal are single output, only exiting the pedal on the mic output line. The reverb is wicked cool and very useable which adds a lot to the experience. When the pedal is deactivated, there is an option to use the pitch correction function to make your dry vocals sound closer to pitch, which is nothing too overwhelming like in pop songs, more like the classic pitch correction used in studios, definately a plus with my lack of singing skill. Keep in mind that this is a pedal and not necessarily studio grade pitch correcton. All things considered, this pedal is going to be right at home on my board for the predictable future. Sorry that I've gone on about this for so long, but I'm excited. I didn't cover all the functions, just the ones that I bought it for. I've found that running an overdrive pedal before the talkbox synth is the way to go for that cool Frampton vibe. For the price, I would say that this is insanely good quality. This is one of my coolest pedals yet!
Works with a learning curve
It's pretty good for adding thebtalkbkx sound. Never used one with a mouthpiece so, can't compare. Make sure to toggle the effect to the more pronounced option if you don't hear the effect. With a little work you can get cool talk box effects on blues leads and voice synth sounds that can "speak" a note. Sales engineer was helpful with questions and shipping
Ignore the negative reviews. BUY THIS PEDAL.
I play professionally in a wedding/special event band (been playing for total of 17 years). I own an MXR talk box, a rocktron banshee, a heil, and a V256 electroharmonix, and this is by far THE BEST. First of all, you get rid of that god awful bacteria trap of a tube in your mouth. This thing is so much more clear than any of the others (I never had a good technique using that… read more tube anyways). And best of all, you don't have 120 decibiles going straight into your cranium. This thing has all the bells and wistles and sounds better than any other pedal on the market. I don't post reviews unless I feel really passionately about a product. Trust me. Buy it.
RD Hellicon talkbox
So far I'm about 80% Thru the testing of this product, and so far it's been doing what it is intended. I still need to run through some of the other functional aspects of the product. I am impressed, so far, with what I hear. Some of the reviews I've read have had good things to say, e,felt for one of two who claim that for long periods of Lead riffs it works well. Their claim is… read more that for long lead runs it is awkward Primarily because of the lack of the missing mouthpiece. Here I take objection, because it wasn't intended to use the mouthpiece, which can be really annoying if not uncomfortable to play with a mouthpiece in your mouth. The microphone , in my opinion, works better. Most lead riffs are not constant, using a mouthpiece engaged. It's got to be monotonous to hear, losing the benefit of the unique effect. With the Talk box synth you get '. Other. ' options which make this unit more versatile. I'm pleased with it so far; I wish an instruction booklet was incuded, but with all the online tutorials I can figure it out.
