Nice Ax

The Traveler Guitar TB-4P Bass is just as I expected it to be. It's convenient, light, small and has a good feel. The headphone amp and mp3 player attachment are great for "traveling." The tone knob also has boost and distortion effects when pressed. (This wasn't listed.) On the down side, the tuning knobs are a bit fidgety. My hand gets in the way when tuning the E and G read more strings. After using the 1/4" jack, the headphone amp won't work for a while. (This could be because of the capacitor discharging within the circuit.) This particular Bass has a slightly annoying "dead-spot" at low C (A string). All have easy work arounds.

Excellent bass, not a toy

The first thing that may strike you about this bass is the headless design. It's not a toy, or a gimmick. The 32" scale is a bit more comfortable for my short stubby fingers. The roundwound strings that come on it are perfectly playable. It has excellent on board electronics for solo practice. The on board distortion/overdrive settings are a bit much, but that's not my style, it read more does sound good. The bridge hardware and tuners are a bit basic, but fit the price point. The Duncan Design pickup also sounds great. A few more bucks in the bridge and tuners wouldn't be a bad thing, but again that would push the cost up. I might upgrade the bridge soon. The tuners might be harder to upgrade.

Great little bass

great sounding bass. The input jack allowed me to plug in my phone to get backing tracks, etc, and headphones in the other jack kept me from bothering others with my practice. Traveled across country switching flights and all that and stowed easily in the overhead. Recommend this bass for anyone traveling who doesn't want to leave music behind. I was surprised how good this sounded. read more my son in law used this for his recordings (he produces some music) and he was pleased as well. I wouldn't put this up against any high end basses but it definitely is as good as many midrange models. the compact size is super cool and I got a few compliments on it.

Well made, poorly designed

Pros: Compact Well made neck/fretwork Great sound through headphones Cons: Terrible upper fret access (tiny cutaway) Difficult to tune Tuners get in the way while slapping I am a cross country truck driver and this bass is ideal for practicing while I'm away from home. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the neck felt and how well the onboard headphone amp sounds. Pushing down read more on the volume knob switches between 4 preset sound profiles. I had not seen this feature mentioned and until I figured it out I thought something was wrong. What I assumed was a dead battery or an electrical issue was actually the distortion preset. My main issues with this instrument are the tuner setup and the cutaway. The tuners are fairly difficult to turn. With your fingers recessed in the tuner cavity it is hard to avoid muting the E and G strings. Also the tuner for the D string sticks up in the exact spot my index finger swings when I play slap bass. I'm used to playing 24 fret Ibanez basses with easily accessible upper frets. Not only does this bass have only 22 frets, but it's near impossible to play above 19. I would never use this for a gig, my other basses are far superior in every way except portability. If you already have a nice bass for gigs and specifically need something compact/portable for practice only, I highly recommend this bass. If you plan on using this for gigs I would advise against it, you can get something better for a comparable price from a different manufacturer. I always deal with Ian, he is the reason I keep ordering instruments and equipment from Sweetwater. I have never had better customer service from any other person or company.

This is not a toy!!!

All I can say is this is really a very high quality instrument. I could easliy gig with this and in fact will start bringing it as my back up bass I am so conifdent in its sound and quality. I play 32 inch scale basses so this is a perfect fit for me. Don't hesitate, if you are on the fence just buy it!!!
