Awesome
I've had this amp for a few weeks now, and I'm really impressed by it. For a tube amp, this thing is just incredibly usable, and I think most people familiar with tubes know that many amps just aren't practical in today's world. It's a modern sound through and through, and a very crispy and clear one at that. I got it to try and get some sweet 80s metal tones, and I was pretty much… read more getting them right away. Effects loop works great, power soak is perfect for apartment use, and I just forget about gear and play with this thing. I mostly play Fender amps, and I was originally looking at Marshalls, but I couldn't seem to jive with them. I'm very happy I pulled the trigger on this one. I literally want the Grandmeister 40 as well as the Black Spirit 200 now. Anyways, I dig it.
Tons of modern features in a portable package!
I wanted to try this amp because I found the features appealing. Simple design, very portable, 2 channels with really good tone, and a bevy of modern features. Plus it looks really cool.... It has a power soak from 20-0.5w, but I kept it at 20w the whole time. I used a Les Paul and Ibanez RG, running straight into the amp. When I had read that it featured a built-in boost, I wondered… read more why they hadn't included a noise gate like on the GrandMeister Deluxe 40, but thankfully very low noise, which is awesome! The shared EQ is good. The gain and tone is reminiscent of a Marshall into Mesa sound. The lead channel goes from the high gain Marshall tone, then to a more Mesa type tone with the boost engaged. This is pretty great to be honest. The clean channel is very nice, I don't play a lot of clean, but it's definitely better than average. More in the Marshall camp than Fender or Vox. This is definitely a cool amp that delivers a lot in a very compact package. I haven't even tried the built-in Red Box yet, but its a cool feature. Bottom line, for the size and price of this amp, the tones are REALLY good, definately check it out!
Outstanding!!!
I've had many high end amps in the past from Marshalls to Mesa Boogies, but this one is really special! Great tones from this!!! Superb fender like clean tones and Mesa like high gain. Unbelievable low noise ultra quite amplifer. So glad I took the chance to try this. Best amp I've had so far!
Excellent
Great tones, looks great, and the red box feature is super useful for recording. def recommend.
Loud... So Very Very Loud!
This is the first tube head that I have owned, having been using Peavey amps for years. I have only been playing on it for a week. Amazing head! I have borrowed my friends Fender Deluxe and an Orange OR-15 in the past and I would put the sound quality in-between the two of those amps. Not as jangly as the Fender and not as overdriven as the Orange. Since I am a pedal guy this is… read more not an issue for me. When you throw a boost or overdrive onto the clean channel... WOW. Fantastic! FX loop works great and my phaser, delay, and chorus pedals sound great. Keeps them out of the power tubes and the tones from them are very clean. If you are not a pedal person and are looking for awesome bluesy and rock and roll tones this thing kicks butt. Doest get as unruly as I would like for metal tones, but a Metal Muff pushed it right to where I was looking.
