Sweet, versatile tones1
This thing really shines just plugged straight into with my Strat, Tele, or PRS. The fact that it's a supreme pedal platform sweetens the deal even more. The Fat, Notch, and Bright switches really make this amp shine and enhance my playing by allowing me to sculpt my tones beyond what a normal EQ would provide. I play through a 1x12 loaded with an Eminence SC64 Alessandro and… read more I am in tonal heaven. The volume control is very usable, but it can get LOUD!!! I can get nearly any sound I desire with my pedals through this amp--which is something I cannot say about the other amps I've owned (Mesa Rectoverb 25, Mesa Mark Five:25, Blackstar HT20, Friedman Runt 20, Friedman Pink Taco.) Just look at the amps I've listed--the Venus Deux Recording surpasses them all overall in tonal quality and versatility. The Mesa Mark Five:25 did the modern high-gain stuff better, but that's really about it. But alas, over a period of three years, all the amps I have listed are no longer with me. The spring reverb is beautiful, right on par with my Princeton Reverb, and the tone controls have a wide range of sweep. You can make this amp sound bright or dark, clean to mean. I prefer the full power mode to the 7 watt mode, but even at 7 watts it sounds great. I have yet to try the built-in Mini Rock Rec, but I am positive it is stellar based on that product's reviews elsewhere on the internet.
