Made My Takamine Santa Fe Sound Better

Gordy Reed

I've had the original end pins on my Santa Fe since I bought it in 1999 and finally changed to D'Addario Planet Waves 6 BRGPN/ENDPN, BoxWood . I did this because of reviews that stated they made their guitars sound better. I have to admit that they do. Now I need a backup set for the next 20 years...Thank you!

The Best Sixteen-Dollar Upgrade!!!

They came in a box. Elegantly packaged. As advertised, the box contains 6 bridge pins and 1 end pin. I have no use for the end pin which I paid for. They look like chess pieces. But, I find them cute. And they seem to match the Natural finish of my acoustic electric. But, putting them inside the bridge holes of my guitar was a challenge. They prove to be a little too big. So, installing read more them took some patience and skill in shaving them to the right thickness. But, my efforts were rewarded once they were all in and tuned to pitch. My rosewood-cedar acoustic guitar has never sounded so good in the 4 years that I had it. As one reviewer had put it, these tiny little bridge pins brought life to my already awesome guitar. I must admit that prior to this, I had just replaced the original plastic bridge pins with a set of Ebony bridge pins from a different brand that somehow made me felt something was lacking. Sure, the pins look elegant with their abalone dot and brass circle on the head. But, sound-wise, they fell flat. I am glad I got these. And I will be buying another set as reserve.

I have a 1991 Gibson Star acoustic/electric guitar that needed a better set of pins to replace the plastic ones that are closing in on 30 years old. That and I just don't care for plastic pins very much. I replaced the bridge pins with a bone set bought elsewhere online at first which was a very subtle improvement over the plastic pins. After a week or so, I still thought my treble read more strings E,B,G were lacking in chime and brightness. A week later, I changed the strings to a medium light set of Dean Markley Blue Steel medium light strings. An improvement but still something was missing from the E,B,G strings. I waited another week or so to let the strings settle in ,etc. I then got these boxwood bridge pins simply just to try from Sweetwater...quickly I might add. I wasn't expecting much at all out of some bridge pins. I de-tuned each string changing one pin at a time. Then I'd pop the pin in and tune up to pitch. I noticed the difference immediately after starting with the low E string. Working my way down, I noticed an improvement on each string. I got all of the pins in and re-tuned to make sure everything was up to snuff. I strummed a G chord and was couldn't believe what I was hearing. The guitar was suddenly more resonant and had better sustain. I said to myself that it wasn't possible to make that much change just out of a pin swap. There was. The treble strings had more clarity and chime. The low strings had more depth to my ears. This is the best $12 I've ever spent enhancing tone. I'm not saying these things work miracles but it did bring life to my good guitar that seemed to have just a tiny bit of something missing from it. For my guitar, they worked. The sound is more full. Maybe since these are wood, it may let the guitars top resonate more. I'm not sure of the technical mumbo of it but wow. Buy these now. For $12, there's nothing to think about. Also, order from Sweetwater without hesitation. Never a bad experience.

Great bridge pins!

Great quality. There is a noticeable improvement in my sound. Not a perfect 5 because these are hard to get into the bridge but after some effort they stay in. Try them out.
