Yamaha FG-TA Transacoustic

I didn't know about sweetwater, so I went to order this FG-TA from Guitar Center. They said they'd have to order it and it'd take a week or so to process, then a couple weeks to get in, so it would be 3-4 weeks. A FB friend said to look at Sweetwater. They had it in stock and I had it in less than a week. I am DONE with Guitar Center THANK YOU Sweetwater!!!

Fantastic Guitar

Scott

I wanted to give an honest review of this guitar. I will start by saying that I have had Martins, Breedlove's, Ibanez's and I have a Taylor that I absolutely love. I would go to my local music store on the weekend and play all the guitars to get away from work/the family for a bit. I would play the other fine guitars, but for some reason I kept coming back to this one. Over a month read more or 2 I noticed that every time I would end up with this guitar for the longest. It looks nice and I tried to capture both views (in the bright light and just normal light). The guitar has a more reddish tone in the sunlight which looks fantastic and in my office light it is more of a brown burst. I really noticed this when I took it home. The shop I got it from has good natural lighting and my office tends to be dark. The neck is great and it is more U'ish shaped versus my Taylor which is more C like. The neck is very comfy and fast, but has a slightly different profile than I was used too. I will say that I do like the neck a lot even though it is slightly different. I think Yamaha is under rated to a certain degree versus some of the other acoustic manufacturers, the value is amazing. Their red label series plays fantastic as well. The voice on this guitar is different than other acoustics I have. My other guitars are dreadnoughts and grand auditorium style guitars. It can take strumming for sure, but I don't feel like it likes it when I dig into it. This guitar seems to like the more articulate approach. By that I mean finger style stuff to more normal to light strumming. When I really pound on it I feel like the guitar responds, but it isn't as pretty of a sound. When I am playing it normal it really sings with a nice deep resonant voice. Another guitar of this series might sound different, but that's just what I have found my guitar really likes. It really is like a woman to a certain degree, if you are too rough it isn't happy, if you come at it with a more delicate/loving approach the response from the instrument is amazing. The electronics are something that I never thought I would use. I watched the videos and frankly didn't care about all the effects. I never plug in my acoustics so I was like whatever. With that being said after a few months I started playing with them and was really blown away. The effects that you can do straight out the sound holes are really fun. It s fun to play with and you can get some great tones. I hope this helps.. Happy playing

My son bought this guitar and it is unbelievable how it sounds live. The demo videos on YouTube don't do it justice.

This guitar is great! The effects are magic and sound great unplugged or plugged. The fit and finish are top quality---I did lower the action a bit, but that is all. A remarkable gigging guitar... I also want to acknowledge my sales guy--Geoff Allen. Sweetwater is the best.

An acoustic joy

I have a full range of guitars from super expensive to the cheap and curious. I have always found anything with the name Yamaha on it to be high quality and this guitar is a fine representation of that perception. The finish on the guitar is the deepest black and excellent binding throughout...not a fault anywhere. I knew it would a good guitar to play because I was raised on read more Yamaha FG guitars and they were always a joy to play. I had the techs at Sweetwater set this up for a lighter string .10 . The set-up out of the box was a delight and impeccable. When you add the Transacoustic aspect this guitar inspires. The TA is not overwhelming or super loud acoustically but the ambiance and effect is present enough to truly make playing it a refreshing experience. This was a no-brainer for me at the price point...rivaling any of my acoustics no matter the price and offering a play ability no other guitar of mine offers.

Wife took me shopping and I got my Hummingbird, the Rachel in sales asked if we had seen this one. I retired and picked up this old habit. My wife listened to me play the FG - TA and said I deserve 2 new guitars. Great investment ! I mean the wife and guitar. haha . You will enjoy the special effect right out of the box.

Yamaha FG TA

I've recently retired and have the time to finally explore music. An old Ibanez 12 string brought me to the point where I felt it was time to move on and move up. Yamaha has earned much respect over the last few decades and I'm happy to report that I didn't have to break the piggybank to learn that my Yamaha FG TA will help my grandchildren and I grow in music. No doubt if something read more doesn't sound right it's me and not the guitar! Now all I have to do is practice, relax and let the guitar ring. If I need a little extra oomph I press the button to add to the effect! Thank you Sweetwater and Thank you Yamaha!

Effects sound good!

I got some high-end Martin, Taylor and Larrivee guitars so I got something to compare this to.I picked one of these up at a music store not realizing at first what it was. I just wanted check out a lower priced Yamaha. My first impression was, "Wow! this sounds and plays great..." The balance and tone quality are quite pleasing. Also, it's got a rather punchy and focused sound which read more may be an effect of the mahogany body. Then, I looked at the knobs and realized it was one of those Trans-Acoustic models. Like many of us, I was very intrigued by the ToneWood Amp device which delivers this effect but I was dubious about having a box stuck on the back of my guitar. While the device on this guitar only has reverb and chorus (ToneWood also has delay and distortion) these two effects sound good to my ear, especially the reverb which make the guitar seem to take up more space and have more presence. I immediately launched into a hard strumming tune with a gutsy vocal and good-golly that acoustic 'verb sure makes a difference! The guitar can keep up with a full-voice vocal much better with the effect which really encouraged be to sing out.Later, I may regret not getting some more expensive, deluxe model but I must say, for the price, the sound is impressive.
