A sleeper product
I picked up a few Mesa pedals to round out my "collection" of them and this is one that I didn't try before I bought. I was pleasantly surprised. The videos do not do this justice. When you use this pedal be aware that the tone control will add volume, gain, and presence to the mix. It's better to not think of it as a tone control, or rather, think of the tone control as controlling… read more more than tone.
Really Great and Dynamic Overdrive
This is a great overdrive that cleans up nicely and gets into distortion territory when driven up. The Presence and Tone knobs add a lot of diversity in sound, and they also seem to add volume nicely when turned up. I have two guitars with humbuckers and one with P-90s, and the P-90 guitar just loves this pedal a lot. Also, the purple/cream color scheme looks sick on my board!
DYNAPLEX is AMAZING
Pulled the trigger and bought this pedal with minimal sound samples available to listen to while making my decision. One thing I can say is the response of this pedal is amazing and none of the sound samples show that very well. I set the gain at 11 and presence around 9, I can get clean crisp arpeggio picking lightly and as I would dig in it turned into a dirt tone that just blew… read more me away. The range of gain is from just on the edge to almost full on distortion, but it retains the character of each note so well. Every where in the gain range, and while at max on the gain knob, everything is crystal clear and very usable. Clean to heavy this adds something I have yet to find in other pedals, I am not one for heavy gain but I do like it on this pedal. This pedal is not transparent but it can get really close. The presence knob on this is not like other pedals, I have other pedals that if the presnece is past 1 O'Clock the sound starts to fall apart, not on this one. All the way around with the presence sound very usable and atriculate. The mid boost switch inside is tucked under some wiring so you have to be careful when you flip it over but it does exactly what you would expect, SUPER hard bump in the mid freqs. All I can say is I was on the fence between this and the FLUX Drive and I think I fell off on the right side for what I was looking for. This pedal has character and thats the bottom line. Never played anything from MESA before but I will be from now on.
