Love this thing!
This is a fantastic pedal! I have a Mesa Recto-Verb 25, but if I put that on clean, run into my 1x12 cab, and kick on the Formula 55, I get that amazing and inspiring Tweed Deluxe tone. It's great for country and rock. It goes from a little extra character to probably too much and all the great stuff in between! The way the knobs work, there are a ton of different tones in it. Catalinbread… read more has a very helpful video on YouTube that really explains how the knobs interact with each other so you can get the most out of it. This is the only Tweed Deluxe pedal I've tried, but I don't have any reasons to try another.
MIGHTY
Wow. Just...WOW. Based on video reviews and demos I knew I liked the tones this little beauty was capable of producing, but I was totally unprepared for how much fun it is to use. Super warm tones. "Woody". Mild to wild. Amp-like response? Touch sensitivity? Believe the hype. Plays extremely well with my EQD Plumes, but may end up being an always on pedal. Running it into a Fender… read more Pro Junior with a 12AY7, which I love, and it's game changing. Kicked my Big Muff off my board. This pedal is as versatile as the vintage tweeds, don't sleep on it. Many thanks to my sales engineer Greg Titzer for steering me towards this pedal and the gold standard Sweetwater customer service. The only place I buy these days.
Formula 55 Catlinbread
The Catlinbread Formula 55 is absolutely the best overdrive/ boost pedal I"ve ever had! I couldn"t be happier with the sound capabilities!
Catalinbread Formula No. 55
Let me start by saying that if you believe tweed tones are missing from your rig this pedal will fill that gap. The pedal does not sound exactly like a 57 Tweed, instead it seems like Howard (designer) opted to realize a better version of the tweed. While the pedal is missing the flubby bass of a real tweed whose volume is dimed, the pedal still roars like a tweed. Also, the pedal… read more supplies an interesting percussive knock/thump that provides the illusion of a loud amp bumping even at low volumes. The tone knob is very powerful and allows you to get very dark or very bright tweed tones, and everything in between. I have played my share of pedals that model the Tweed Deluxe; this is the first tweed pedal that made me smile.
What an amazing pedal
You should look for demo videos on Youtube and you will fall in love with this thing. I wish I has heard about it years ago!
