Big Muff meets Tone Bender with a vintage octave up
My two favorite songs to rip on my favorite fuzz are "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" by the White Stripes on the Hoof side, and "Warpigs" on the Reaper Side. If you know those sounds, you know this pedal.
Versatile distortion pedal
I purchased this pedal as my one distortion pedal. The pedal can produce distortion ranging from punk to rich-dark distortion and fuzz. With the dials turned down it could even be used as overdrive. I have a separate overdrive pedal. I subtracted half a star because of the octave button. When the hoof and reaper settings are set correctly, the octave switch can create an interesting… read more rumbling sounding distortion which can be changed up. However, when the dials are not set up optimally and the guitar level falls below a certain point, the two pedals can cancel out some of the signal so that it is much much quieter. Once I figured out the optimum settings for my rig, I haven't had to change anything and am super happy with the range of sounds between a combination of these three switches. I mention my experience with the octave dial because this is not mentioned in any manual and I had to troubleshoot this. I could easily have talked to someone from Sweetwater but I'm stubborn and wanted to figure it out myself.
Probably my Be-All End-All Pedal
I've seen quite a few people scoff at this pedal due to the price but you're really getting an insane value here. If you were to buy each pedal separately you'd be looking at forking out about $450-$470 brand new and having all three in one space saves up two power supply slots and requires 2 fewer patch cables. Now, that may not sound like a lot but it all adds up when you start… read more building your board and combo pedals can be lifesavers. Of course, all this would be meaningless if the pedal didn't sound fantastic and it absolutely does. You can use all three effects in any conceivable order and any possible combination and they all go together perfectly, like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry icecream. Do yourself a favor and just get this pedal. Don't settle for anything less, save up and get what you deserve, the EQD Hoof Reaper
Hoof/reaper v2
Both the hoof and the reaper sides of the pedal are awesome. The reaper is slowly becoming the pedal thats always on. With a perfect amount of OD it is exactly what ones needs for that gain powered sound. The hoof on the other side is the perfect fuzz pedal resembling a Russian green muff tenfold, its the fuzz pedal i wanted all along. HOWEVER, on the second version of the pedal… read more the middle button was changed from a bypass to an octave switch and I think that was a bad idea. There are no controls for the octave and only really becomes noticeable once past the 12th fret. If you can find V1 with bypass switch, in my mind is just a little bonus to a great pedal.
All the Fuzz
This pedal is simply great. Works awesome with the volume knob and can clean up extremely well without hiss or added noise. The tone ranges are really expansive with all the combinations. The exception is that broken spitty fuzz sound or velcro fuzz tones. It gets close but doesn't really do that sound naturally. However, if I do desire that tone I remedy this with my Voodoo Lab… read more PP2+ on one of the sag power outputs. You can back the voltage about half-way and use the reaper side. This will give great spitty broken tones if you should desire that. Overall a must have for fuzz enthusiasts.
