Absolutely My Baby

This thing is SICK! Not really much else to say other than that it it by far my favorite instrument I own. I can only dream about a passive/active switch and push/pull pots with coil splits, that would make this one of the most versatile basses you could buy! Only reason this review isn't 5 stars, is because the nut was unglued when I got it, but a bit of Elmer's glue and a day read more later, it's perfectly fine and has held up since!

Great bass

Couldn't ask for much more at this price point. I really enjoy this bass. The only think keeping it from 5 stars is the fact that the minute you want to replace the string that come on this bass you have to modify the bridge to accept a standard 130 B string (the nut is cut for the 130 but the bridge is only drilled for 120).

Jackson 5 (strings that is)

I've been playing this bass for a little over a year now. It was pretty good right out of the box but after I had my guitar tech tweak it a bit and load it with new Rotosound strings, it is now OMFG! I was apprehensive about the stock pickups but they sound great with the Rotosound strings). My guitar tech said it's one of the most beautiful basses that have come across his bench read more in a long while and he sees everything from Rick's to vintage Fender Jazz to custom built boutique models. The quilted maple top really looks stunning, nothing cheap here (except the price). There was zero documentation included but I figured the controls out pretty fast. The three knobs in a row are bass, mid, and treble with boost and cut on each. The two knobs are neck and bridge volume controls. The bridge is nice and beefy, you won't need to think about heavy replacement because this one works and sounds excellent. I have four four-string basses and I've been wanting a 5-string for a many years but just could not spend as much as it would take nor could I find one that I liked the features. This bass ticked all the boxes and the price was the final bit that made me choose this bass. I have a Jackson short scale bass and two Jackson Guitars, all made in Indonesia. I have to say, the fit and finish on these instruments is very good. I have several Fender MIM products that are ok but not up to the standards these Indonesian made instruments have, computer controlled manufacturing has taken the quality of these instruments up to a level I'm proud to own and play. BTW Amaranth is also known as Purple Heart and it makes an excellent fingerboard, it's hard and dense like ebony but it's not endangered or controlled by Mr Taylor. I like this bass a lot, it's the one I reach for whenever I need to make bass tones in the studio. My bass playing bro's all like it a lot so that's nice. Good music to all!

Happy with bass, a bit misled by the description

I am very happy with this bass. The sound is great - I love the fader knob that allows me to "mix" between the bridge and neck pickups. The neck and fingerboard fit me well - I have better "sense" of where I am on the neck. Other positives: Good sustain (worthy of Nigel Tufnel), good weight (it feels heavy duty), beautiful finish. One complaint - The description of this guitar read more on the Sweetwater site does not prominently state that the electronics are "active". I had to find out the hard way by picking up my bass one day and it didn't work because of a dead battery.
