Just upgraded to this bass, and I have no bad words to say about my purchase. Great build quality, great setup and inspection, and as always, great service from Andy Rice and the Sweetwater team! Needed the flexibility of the PJ configuration with a thinner jazz style neck, and timeless good looks. This bass checks all the boxes. Ash body has rich harmonics and tone with good sustain read more and presence. Neck is solid and very fast, with eye catching inlays and solid tuners. Looked at the Fender performer with PJ pickups, but it a has a P bass style neck, which is slightly wider and chunkier. For my taste, I like a Jazz style bass neck, but with P bass tone capabilities, so this was the best solution in my price range. Shipped in the SKB case (purchased separately) and arrived in mint condition. Glad I bought it!!!

Great Playing Bass Once You Fix Some Problems

I would give this bass a five rating, but there had been some problems with the bass, that shouldn't have been when I received it. The first problem was the the little round piece that holds down the D string and G String. That was not right and my tech is a luthier, so he caught it and repaired it, some of the frets were uneven, and the pickups were just plain horrible. Which I read more changed out for DiMarzio model PJ pickups. Now it sounds really good with more bottom end, along with better low mids also. Those Lakland pickups were horrible unless you're into slapping and popping constantly. Which, I'm not very much into. I also hate EMG pickups because, to me, they sound very sterile. I have never met an EMG pickup, that I've ever liked. That's why I didn't want the GB 44-64. I also had a black pick guard made for the bass, because I hate white pick guards. With that metallic blue and the black pick guard. The bass now looks and plays awesome now. This bass has one of the best necks that I've played on and with those better pickups in it. It now sounds awesome and I couldn't be happier. This is a great playing bass, once it's dialed in. But the way I received it, I almost sent it back. If it wasn't for that neck being so nice to play, I would have. But it only cost me a 125.00 bucks to get everything repaired right and I even had a bone nut installed in it. Now it's a real player and I wouldn't sell or trade it for anything now.

I've owned this bass for a year now. I am not a professional player but I have played for 20 years on and off. I've owned a verity of basses , but this one is tops without question. I have a Fender Jazz and Fender Precision bass I used both when I play out (mostly party's and weddings) . So I was interested in trying out a bass that would cover both. From the moment I plugged this read more bass in I knew it was something special . The pickups have great range ,they cover both those guitars and more . Tone controls are are smooth and easy to use. I love the combination of the jazz neck with the p bass body. But there is something special about the neck, its fast and feels extra light in your hands and the fret work is A+. I love the neck binding and block inlays. The Hipshot tuners are nice. I (it) get lots of compliments when I play this thing. Which nowadays is always. I guess the only downside is I haven't touched my Fenders for a year now. Sorry about the long review. (I could go on and on) Also a shout out to the folks at Sweetwater they were very helpful with the purchase. (And finding me a nice case for it) Thank you. PS: I agree with the reviewer above . What are the strings Lakland use on this bass ? And how do I get more. They play great.

Excellent Bass!

I highly recommend this bass. This is my first Lakeland, and I can tell I'll be getting more in the future.

My first Lakland. Playing mostly fender basses I thought I would try one of these out. What I noticed right away was how nice the neck is. Nice slim, smooth and fast. Great fret work and straight as an arrow all the way to the 20th fret. Beautiful sustain unplugged from an amp. Not sure the brand of strings that come with it bu, they compliment it nicely. Played it out this read more past weekend for the first time and found it worked very well as we play a variety of styles. I think the only con was that it felt smaller than my Fender Jazz basses but that is just a matter of getting used to. Nice pickups and smooth quiet volume and tone controls. No hum or buzz when rolling back the volume on the J pickup. If the Skylines are this good then I can't wait to try a USA model.
