You can pay more if you want.........
You can pay more if you want but you're not going to find a better overdrive. I'm 55 and I've playing professionally for decades. You name a pedal and I've probably gigged it.I've been a big fan of the regular Mojo Mojo for years. I've had 4. I keep replacing it with something "Better".....which means more expensive.I may be thick in the head but it finally dawned on me that I like… read more the freaking pedal regardless of price, price doesn't always equate with quality of sound. So I'm buying my last Mojo Mojo and there's a new Paul Gilbert model that goes to eleven. I know he's been a fan for years. Paul has great ears and I was sure he dialed this in proper. I was not disappointing. The eq of the pedal is perfect. The mids are sitting right where they should. It's everything I liked about the original but it can get ballsier on the 11 setting(long Live Spinal Tap), perfect. I use an overdrive to boost my leads with my Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50. (a phenomenal amp). I originally bought one of the more expensive boogie pedals thinking it should match up. Nope to much noise, hated the eq. Do yourself a favor and buy the Mojo. I doubt you'll regret it. I'm still going to find a used original for cheaper someday and buy it but I'm glad I bought this one.
Not an OCD, goes to 11
OK, this pedal pulls out some stops. I'd say it sounds like my OCD-Ge but it has some major differences that I really like. When I hit the OCD side by side to the PGMM, it sounds like the OCD has an artificial chorus tossed in the mix. Never noticed that before. The thing to take away here and now though is how raw and face melting the PG Mojomojo really is. I have a regular… read more Mojomojo, this is not that. If you can only ever have only one distortion overdrive, this is what I would recommend. 11 my friends, yeah I go to that.
Love this pedal!!!
The Paul Gilbert MojoMojo is by far the best bang for the buck pedal around! I play strictly Stratocaster through either a Bjr, C68 Vibrolux Reverb or Blues Deluxe. This pedal lets my single coils sing like a humbucker when needed with all the grit and harmonics but also doesn't lose that single coil chime when you back off the volume. At low gain on the neck pickup I get that snarly… read more SRV tone. Awesome Awesome pedal!
Best drive pedal for the money
This pedal does it all. Low pice, functionality, and amazing tone. The pedal does well with humbuckers and single coils. It has a low noise floor in spite of the increased gain. It plays blues tones as well as heavier rock sounds. I have used it to great success with a fender deluxe reverb, and a bad cat cub 40R.
Pulls it's Own Weight
I preordered this right here at Sweetwater after watching Paul Gilbert demo it on a TC Electronics YT video. Sounded pretty hot, and that it is. I will say that as with all overdrives, this pedal is very guitar and to a lesser extent, amplifier dependent. My hands are not huge, but as you can see in the photo, its a pretty nice size. Not too huge, but shouldn't completely disappear… read more on your board. I like that. Running my Ibanez 540S through it and into my Peavey XXX yielded some very satisfying grind and thump on the amp's clean settings. With everything dialed straight at 12 o'clock, this pedal is thick with a very "green box" flavor to it. But it's not traditional in that sense. Backing off of my guitar volume cleared things up but doesn't clean things up. This isn't a problem however because I didn't buy this for that. But I was impressed with how things remained overdriven but gained clarity just by backing off a little. Kicking the Drive up to about 1:30 and adding some treble as I have it set in the photo seemed to be the magic spot for me. The S540 got hard and eager to voice her overtones with every touch and even at my neighborhood considerate volumes, didn't mind evolving into some nice even order feedback. And I was still in Clean mode. Going into Crunch mode with amp gain set between 10 and noon continued to create mayhem and put me close to felony territory. And I'm not even sure the family can hear me upstairs. I can't wait to hear how this baby sounds at garage-recording studio volume. But it has been very smooth and friendly so far. Having done this, I next plugged in my H.E.R. Stratocaster and proceeded to get some real blues tone, setting everything back to my beginning settings and going clean channel on the amp. This Strat has Fender Noiseless pickups, so buzz was not an issue and I had a lot of fun getting good, clear OD in all my pickup and tone settings. I was really surprised to hear and feel how responsive this pedal is given the name that's on it. It was a very pleasant surprise. I could go on, but what I should say is that if you want a good versatile OD that can go from round and mellow to breaking all the glasses in the club, you may want to give this one a try. For me, it's a keeper.
