Great portable rig
I plan on using this for direct recordings- mostly solos. It has a perfect tone for classic rock- I was doing everything from Van Halen to skynyrd on it. I don't think it is capable for modern metal - which is ok for me. You need to play around with it a bit- at first I didn't like it but looked at some you tube videos. It basically does a good job with Hendrix like fuzz to regular… read more straight gain. Other pedals-I plates around with my evh Phase and flanger pedals and put them in the front of it and they worked fantastic- I don't know how other delays or Reverbs work with it but most ppl won't need them
Unbelievable!
Amazing tone. Both with amp or direct to PA. Killer. Simple, minimal and beautiful! Thank you Ben!
Packs a lot of punch
I'm a bass player by trade, but covid quarantine had me playing more guitar and Uke, so I started looking for some effects for those. This rig packs a lot of punch in it's small frame. All functions are very reactive, and work well together. spend some time getting acquainted with it, and try different settings. I found a lot of versatility of sounds through blending , and found… read more that less can be more with this Rig , but if you want to blast off with it , it can carry the load as well. I was so impressed with this, I'm going to try the Fly Rig for bass next.
Great Asset to the Creative and Gig Arsenal
I love gear, but I'm getting more focused on a piece of gear's utility. So, I'll list those components first. The cab emulation is very convenient, and it sounds great. The built in boost and compressor were very smart. This is not just a distortion pedal. I like to use the compressor for clean playing. For sound, as heard in the videos, it's excellent for classic rock, 80's rock,… read more and even modern metal (assuming you have the right pickups in your guitar). It probably most shines in the 80/90's rock category (IMO). Though leaving the boost off can bring out really inspiring dynamics. My particular application is with an impulse response pedal that has power amp emulation. I'm happy to report the sound is CRAZY EXCELLENT!
The Tech21 Flyrig Richie Kotzen RK5 version 2 Is the answer
I was an early adopter of the Flyrig pedals, this being my third. I have the FlyRig 5 Plexi, the RK5 Richie Kotzen v1 and now RK5 Kozen V2. I have been using the RK5 v1 at church because it is small enough to throw in my guitar case and the tone is top shelf. It has a Sans Amp section that I use for light Overdrive and then an OMG section for Distortion. It also has a Boost section… read more that can be used for solo's when you need your volume up to cut through. I liked it so much, that as soon as I could I bought the RK5 Version 2. This pedal is a great update to the original. The pedal is an inch longer and a little bit taller, but still, nothing to concern yourself with. It is still very small and can be carried in your gigbag or hard guitar case without issue. There is an addition of a Tuner, a push-button Sans Amp section, Reverb with two settings with smaller room and bigger room sound, the OMG section with a push button to change to Fuzz. The Boost section now doubles as a Boost or an old-school one knob Compressor. It has Reverb, a Delay Section, that can be switched to either Delay or a Rotary pedal with a speed footswitch to double the rotary speed like an old Leslie cabinet. Other features are headphone output, built-in IR's and an EXL Output as well as 1/4 inch in's and out. It is hard to beat this pedal, especially in the inexpensive pedal class.
