On the Go or Private Practice Amp
I rate this unit on what I need it to do and bang for the buck. I bought this unit as a private and traveling practice "amp". I use it with headphones. Good tone. Don't be fooled by the size as modern technology gives quality tone in a small package. Nice tuner feature as well, everything you need. Unit is solid metal and knobs and push buttons VERY durable, high quality unit… read more just like you find on the VOX amps. Fits in your guitar bag. Basic features are super easy to use and understand. May have to read a bit to dial in some some variations but I figured it out pretty quickly. For well under 100 bucks to have a suite of amps and effects that you can take anywhere or just private practice without disturbing anyone you cannot beat it! I did plug it into my amp a tinkerer a little, maybe I do a follow up review...again, for my intended purpose and price I find this unit outstanding.
Lucky find
Howdy folks. I don't care for pedals but I do like a little flavor such as reverb, delay, tremelo, light crunch. Decided to try a multieffects pedal. After lots of research, the Stomplab IG price and specs got my attention. I knew Sweetwater and my man Christian would not let me get "burned" so I ordered one. Turned out to be perfect for an old hobby guy. It has a strong metal… read more case, solid plastic knobs and smooth foot switches. The tiny push buttons probably can't take abuse. I like only a few of the presets but 20 programmable slots let me find all the tones I could ever want. Took a little effort to figure out how to edit but when I did, it's simple. I always use a hard copy of the parameters when I edit because there are so many. Had the Stomplab for about a year and a half and no problems. Just got another one because they are so inexpensive and perfect for my needs. Sweetwater is the best.
Feature and tone packed, complicated learning curve.
Excellence in a small package. Preloaded with enough tone to get you rocking any genre of music with the simple twist of a knob and maybe a few button presses. Built like a tank. Affordable and sounds great. Has a learning curve a little steeper than I can deal with for saving and editing tones or creating from scratch but I am going to keep it because it's loaded. Make no mistakes.… read more The tuner is dead on to my Snark. It's loaded with pedal samples for tone. Amp and cab models, just too much dialing back and forth to save an edited tone and a single mistake along the way you have to go back and dial everything in again. Compact and perfect for practice without an amp. Just headphones. Would I do a gig with it? Yep. Is it great for beginners and maybe even intermediate players? Yep. Is the price right for what you really get? Yes it is? It's another little treasure that as hobby player with GAS I'll keep. Battery powered. Cab connectable. Made of metal and packed with tone and features! I picked mine up on sale for around fifty four dollars but the listed price currently is on time for this unit.
Vox Stomplab 1g
I have been playing guitar for 50 years and have been a huge fan of Vox products. With all of the social isolation due to this years Covid 19 pandemic as well as some health issues, 8 have had a lot of spare time to go through decades worth of collected gear and organize. I ran across my old Tom Scholz Rockman and vaguely remembered there being an issue with it. The unit powered… read more right up and all functions worked except that 1 side of the headphones did not. I knew not many people would repair this, but it is most definitely well worth fixing. I set it aside, but thought about it for a few days.....I wanted to get it fixed, but also wanted something new to replace it as a portable headphone amp while my wife worked from home. I did some research and ran across the Vox Stomplab 1g. It had great reviews, and was available at Sweetwater. I will spare all the specs and functions, they are easily found. The Stomplab is an awesome product, the learning curve is not so steep, and with some tweeking you can get some amazing sounds from it, including multiple effects. Until I find someone qualified to repair my Rockman, the Vox Stomplab 1G more than covers for it. Highly recommend!!!!!
