RTO Overdrive
Very pleased with the Robin Trower overdrive pedal I purchased from Sweetwater ! It delivers excepionally crisp , nicely toned boost even while rolling back on the volume knob. Not just loud staunchy radical boost .
Robin Trower OD
All I can say is what makes it so good is that the mid hump is at a lower frequency (maybe 400 Hz?) than a tube screamer. Exactly where it needs to be with a Strat through a Deluxe Reverb!
Yup! This is the one.
This is the second RTO I"ve purchased only to replace another noisey inferior distortion pedal on my board. Each RTO on my board has a different gain setting and they stack as well so I have an awesome third setting to add to my arsenal. PROS: Very quiet even on full gain...tone control blends in plenty of high end without diminishing bass response...Hand wired, so it"s solid and… read more sturdy equipment... and he power supply jack is in a great place on the box, it doesn"t interfere with output jack...perfect RT tone and overdrive, warm analog response, but cuts thru the mix...stacks well with other pedals. CONS: Very pricey (but if you"re serious about your sound, you"ll get over it)... I play single coils, and this pedal response like a champ, humbuckers will have a field day with this pedal. I own dozens of overdrive and distortion pedal and now I only use these two RTO pedals. The others are sitting on the shelf now.
Rodin Trower Overdrive
I purchased the Robin Trower Overdrive a few months ago and cannot be happier with this pedal! I use it basically for tone shaping as the pedal stays on during the entire show! This pedal has awesome tone much like a souped up tube screamer and can be used as a clean boost with the gain rolled back or great for adding crunch or overdrive with the gain maxed out. Another thing that's… read more great is it clean's up really well with your guitars volume knob!!!! Thanks to all the staff @ Sweetwater !!!
ONE OF A KIND DISTORTION PEDAL
The best and most unique feature of this Overdrive pedal is how it responds to the volume control on your guitar. If you turn your volume down low the pedal really cleans up nicely, I mean REALLY CLEAN, no fizz or buzzy stuff, clear bell like sound. Ready for some drive? Spin the guitar volume open and here comes the sustain and overdrive, as much as you want depending on how… read more you set the controls. I own over a dozen different distortion pedals along with nine Boogie amps, a Marshall 100 watt and a Bugera 1960 150 watt head. I waited a long time before I finally bought the RTO, I'm so glad I finally got it. This is NOT ANOTHER TUBE SCREAMER. For comparison I have a vintage Maxon Tube Screamer as well as one of their newer 808 Overdrive pedals. None of the Tube Screamers I've ever used clean-up like the RTO when you turn the guitar down low. The tone controls on a Stratocaster become much more useable and important when using the RTO. You'll find yourself rolling off some highs and never missing them because the pedal has so much character. My favorite set up for using this pedal is the Bugera 1960 head into a Marshall 4x12, this combination yields up a very authentic Robin Trower tone. I run the Bugera with the master volume bypassed so it's a very loud amplifier, with the RTO and my American Standard Strat the sound is amazing. Now, throw in the Fulltone Vibe pedal and it's Robin Trower tone bliss. It's an expensive pedal and frankly, after living in LA for eight years, the whole "Made in California" thing means nothing to me. Inside the pedal looks to be well made, the mounting of the pots is the best feature. The case is surprisingly thick and heavy. The footswitch has a nice positive click feel to it. The LED is bright and easy to see but not too bright. It may be a bit expensive so skip all the other distortion and overdrive pedals you were thinking about buying, just go for this one and you'll be ready to rock some serious overdrive. Good music to all!
