I agree with the power jack criticism, but is otherwise a great overdrive

The power jack is recessed into the pedal housing more than any other pedal I've seen besides my Julia, as this is a common problem with Walrus pedals in general. They have the power input mounted to the circuit board which is not close enough to the hole that they pilot into the housing. Certain power cables do not situate firmly into the hole so you might end up having to use read more the straight end of the power cable which can throw a wrench in your pedal board layout depending on how you have it arranged. Walrus needs to fix this issue as I've never seen any other pedal on the market with this problem. Other than that, this is one my favorite overdrives. It's tube screamer-esque in that it has a mid hump but it also reminds me a lot of a bluesbreaker. To my ears, it sounds like a hybrid of the two. I really like the compressed setting going into an amp set on the cleaner side. It's got plenty of gain to give a nice singing lead tone that's full of character and a nice gritty texture. It's not too smooth and refined sounding like your typical tube screamer but has more of a rawness to it which I tend to prefer. It also differs from a tube screamer in that I think it sounds really good with humbuckers, even though it's primarily billed as a great fit for a strat neck pickup. The bass and treble controls are voiced perfectly imo and depending on where they're set, it can even further differentiate itself from a TS. One other critique I find a bit strange is that for some unknown reason Walrus lists the current draw as 100mA but it actually only draws 8.9mA, so I'd like to know what the deal is with that. Part of me suspects it's some sketchy marketing ploy to create the sense that something more is going on under the hood, but that's probably just my cynical side coming through.

BEST overdrive I've used

From the lowest gain setting to the highest you can dial it in from nothing almost no additional gain (but a great clean boost) to the most perfect levels of crunch and light distortion. I always kept my other pedals so low to get the sounds I wanted and they were really touchy and hard to dial in, but this thing is so smooth. There is a comment on here about having trouble with read more 90 degree angled cables, but I am having good luck with them as that is all I am using with it.

Great!

So basically this is a tube screamer type pedal. Of all the tube screamer type pedals I've played over the years, this one is eq'd the best, to my ears. Somehow, it's pretty transparent and yet still does the boosted mids thing that tube screamers do so well. I love it! The only thing I'd change is the power supply input. Just make the whole a little bigger for my power cable to read more lock in all the way. It works, but I'm afraid if my pedal shifts around much during live play, the cable MIGHT come lose a little. The straight end power cables work fine, but if you use 90 degree angle power cables like I do, they don't seem to lock in as tightly.

Great for Metal Tone

So I play metal and I"ve been tone chasing for years. I play through an Orange Rockerverb III and love the sound I get through that head but I"ve been looking for an Overdrive to compliment that amp and give it just the right amount of oomph! Well this pedal does that! I turn the volume up at 3 o"clock, drive around 10-12 o"clock, Bass at 2 o"clock, and Treble at around 1-2 o"clock read more and boom!!, FACES MELT!!! I"ve had a lot of overdrives and most seem to take away the bass of my Orange amp but the bass nob on this pedal cures it! LOVE THIS PEDAL!!
